Fair-minded and sympathetic to Jewish, Muslim, and Christian concerns, Lutz and Smith provide a clear account of the Israeli-Palestinian situation and a compelling plea for Christian involvement in the area. Carefully sorting out the tangled historical and religious roots of the problems, they reveal the strong forces at work in the conflict and lay out the driving biblical notions of election and covenant, the historical causes of the bitter and divisive clashes of the last 50 years, the complex demographic and political issues today, how Palestinians (particularly Christians) have been affected by the turmoil, and how, finally, Christians must engage the future of justice and peace. Includes maps and twelve black and white photos.

A Land Full of God gives American Christians an opportunity to promote peace and justice in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It shows them how to understand the enmity with brief, digestible, and comprehensive essays about the historical, political, religious, and geographical tensions that have led to many of the dynamics we see today. All the while, A Land Full of God walks readers through a biblical perspective of God's heart for Israel and the historic suffering of the Jewish people, while also remaining sensitive to the experience and suffering of Palestinians. The prevailing wave of Christian voices are seeking a pro-Israeli, pro-Palestinian, pro-peace, pro-justice, pro-poor, and ultimately pro-Jesus approach to bring resolution to the conflict. Holy Land? draws us into the evocative landscape of the Holy Land itself. Sacred yet scarred, the lands of the Bible stimulate us to think about a range of issues that are both urgent and timeless. In Jerusalem, 'a veritable melting pot of cultures', we meditate on the question, 'What is home?' At the River Jordan, where John the Baptist delivered his radical call to repentance and baptism, we ask, 'Who am I?' In the cave of Christ's burial and resurrection in the Holy Sepulchre, we wonder, 'How can I face the darkness?' Confronted by the vast desolation of the desert, we cry, 'Dare I be alone with God?' And negotiating the obstacle-strewn Road to Emmaus, we consider, 'Am I ready for change?' Holy Land? will benefit those preparing to undertake a physical pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and those seeking a spiritual resource to deepen the life of faith and discipleship.

Faithful Witness written by Michel Sabbah and has been published by New City Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Christianity and other religions categories.

Each chapter of Faithful Witness, a collection of Michel Sabbah’s essential writings, contains a theme developed during his twenty-year tenure as Patriarch of Jerusalem. Beginning with “Reading the Bible in the Land of the Bible,” Faithful Witness proceeds from God’s Grace and the Nativity to Lent and Jesus’ Resurrection. In between, Patriarch Sabbah addresses other important topics, including the role of the Church in the Holy Land, Jerusalem, ecumenism, Christian-Muslim dialogue and Palestinian-Israeli relations. “For anyone who wants to understand the complex status quo of the Holy Land today, this careful and thoughtful selection from the work and teaching of Patriarch Sabbah is a useful and most insightful guide. The first Palestinian to be called to the dignity and the challenging ministry of Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, this brilliant and courageous religious leader has been for 20 years a father to his community and a test to his adversaries. As you read his words … you see a man … who never gives up hope that the power of God will ultimately bring a new day of harmony to this land where the ancient prophets lived and died and where the children of Abraham—Jewish, Christian and Muslim—must find a way to live in peace together.” Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Ph.D., D.D. Archbishop Emeritus of Washington Patriarch Sabbah’s inclusive vision embraces all peoples, including Palestinians and Israelis. He courageously extends himself to open dialogue with leaders who do not share his vision of “peace with justice.” His friendship and conversations with Palestinian and Israeli leaders do not diminish his objectivity, search for dialogue and truth and calls for peacemaking, peace building and reconciliation.

Many of the problems afflicting American education are the result of a critical shortage of qualified teachers in the classrooms. The teacher crisis is surprisingly resistant to reforms and is getting worse. This analysis of the causes underlying the crisis seeks to offer concrete, affordable proposals for effective reform. Vivian Troen and Katherine Boles, two experienced classroom teachers and education consultants, argue that because teachers are recruited from a pool of underqualified candidates, given inadequate preparation, and dropped into a culture of isolation without mentoring, support, or incentives for excellence, they are programmed to fail. Half quit within their first five years. Troen and Boles offer an alternative, a model of reform they call the Millennium School, which changes the way teachers work and improves the quality of their teaching. When teaching becomes a real profession, they contend, more academically able people will be drawn into it, colleges will be forced to improve the quality of their education, and better-prepared teachers will enter the classroom and improve the profession.

In life, we can take many journeys, but nothing is like a spiritual journey of a lifetime. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to Israel with other ministers. We were selected as a group to go on a special trip, a trip that perhaps would impact each of us in a very unique way. We went on the journey to learn, to observe and to be strengthened in our faith. While we were there, we reflected on our ministry and spent time discerning our call and our future. We toured biblical sites that focused on the Jews, the Romans, the Arabs, and particularly on the ministry of Jesus Christ. We traveled several places like Tiberias of Galilee, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, and many other sites. During my time in Israel, I had some interesting moments on the pilgrimage. There were moments at certain sites I felt deeply touched and spiritual uplifted as I walked and looked around. My faith was strengthened as I rode the boat on the Sea of Galilee. I felt spiritually uplifted when I was in Caesarea Philippi. And, I felt touched the most when I was at the Garden Tomb where Jesus was buried. I must say there is something about visiting Israel that will touch your heart. My heart was touched many times and I left with an everlasting impression. If you want to experience or explore the biblical sites and learn about the ministry of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to visit and be inspired and feel the joy in the Holy Land.

A trip to the Holy Land is on the bucket list of many Christians. But planning a meaningful trip in a place so filled with significant sites is an imposing task. Most travel guides are not prepared to link the Bible and land in an accurate and meaningful way because they are written for people of all faiths. So how can a Christian traveler prepare a trip that will illuminate God's Word and reveal the Lord's presence? In The Holy Land for Christian Travelers, John A. Beck provides a guide to the Holy Land for Christians with explanations of the biblical significance of important sites. The entries provide key Scripture references for reflection and a guide to the land that will encourage communion with God and a genuine spiritual experience for travelers as they walk in the footsteps of Jesus. A trip to the Holy Land can be a worship-filled, once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey. This book puts a biblical scholar and experienced Holy Land guide at the reader's side.
