Tis the season to be jolly but not always. Some holiday hearts are a stark contradiction to the merriment the season brings. What began in 1991 as Cheryl Bergers personal gift to family and friends has grown into the collection you now hold in your hands. These inspirational writings have been included in her familys annual Christmas cards with the hope of bringing the recipients a little holiday cheer. Tidings of Comfort and Joy contains more than just seasonal entries, however. Some have to do with situations, circumstances, as well as the unexpected, experienced in everyday life. Bible verses have been woven like a scarlet thread throughout each piece. Some pieces are personal, and some were written for others. All were written with the purpose of encouraging hearts with the hope found in Christ. Realizing the Lord speaks to her heart through her writing, many hours have been spent seeking God for a word in due season. With a heart for hurting women, Cheryl uses words to minister hope and peace to wounded and broken hearts. If you listen carefully, you can hear songs of hope flowing throughout each piece. It is her prayer that the Lord will use the imagery penned in this collection to fill your heart with tidings of comfort and joy.

The title of this book, Very Short Reflections--for Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, Ordinary Time and Saints--through the Liturgical Year, accurately describes its contents. Chapter 1 presents a short reflection for every day of the Advent Season. Chapter 2 does the same for every day of the Christmas season. Lent is covered in chapter 3, the Sacred Paschal Triduum in chapter 4, and the fifty days of the Easter season in chapter 5. Chapter 6 covers Ordinary Time. And chapter 7 presents a short reflection for every solemnity, feast, and memorial of saints, whose special day falls during the liturgical year. The short reflections are based on sets of Mass texts--Entrance Antiphon, Collect, Prayer over the Offerings, Preface, Communion Antiphon, Prayer after Communion, and Prayer over the People--presented for every day of Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, Ordinary Time and saints in The Roman Missal. The reflection identifies the theme of the day and presents how it is manifested in the Mass texts. These very short reflections are designed to expose to the reader the liturgical spirituality that emanates from the Mass texts.

And Jesus Will Be Born written by Adrian Plass and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Christmas categories.

In this gentle and humorous anthology of poems, stories, commentary and reflections, Adrian Plass invites us to celebrate Christmas in its many facets. And Jesus Will Be Born is a holiday cornucopia filled with the laughter, tears, family foibles, simple joys and the rich blessings of the season. There's no predicting what the turn of a page will bring in this Christmas collection by Adrian Plass. It may be a bit of verse to moisten the eyes ... When I'm in heaven Tell me there'll be Christmases without the pain No memories that will not fade No chilled and sullen sense of loss That cannot face the festive flame Nor breathe excitement from the ice-cream air Tell me how the things that Christmas should have been Will be there for eternity in one long shining dawn For all of us to share I love the promises of Christmas. Then again, there is this -- an 'advertisement' from Plass's spoof of a church newsletter: 'How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news? The answer is -- not very, if they haven't had those ugly corns treated. Christian chiropodist. Special Yuletide reductions ...' Setting the poignant, the madcap, the joyous and the tender in artful counterpoint, this is a book to be savored over the entire holiday season. It offers something for everyone in every setting -- family readings, personal libraries and even church pulpits. And Jesus Will Be Born speaks to the full spectrum of our humanity, celebrating the golden Christmas traditions, poking playfully at our seasonal foibles, observing our less-than-noble attitudes with an eye that is at once honest and gracious -- and always looking towards the Person around whom all that is truly Christmas revolves. In the midst of our festivities, Adrian Plass gently reminds us why we need a Savior. And he points us towards the unfathomable possibilities that have been opened to us, and the joy and hope that are ours, because Jesus was born long ago in Bethlehem and is born today in us.

A Sanctuary In Our Midst Christmas Reflections On Jesus written by Karen L. Straszheim and has been published by Ambassador International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-12 with Religion categories.

Amidst the checklists and social engagements for the Christmas season, Karen Straszheim writes for the weary Christian who gets lost in the holiday madness. By placing a strong emphasis on spiritual rest, Straszheim's Christmas devotional is divided into eleven chapters that collectively call for the Christian to put their shopping bags down and just rest in the Scriptures. A Sanctuary in Our Midst: Christmas Reflections on Jesus is deeply enriched with Scripture references throughout to exemplify how the Old and New Testament compliment each other, and how we can understand the Bible. A Sanctuary in Our Midst is perfect for studying within a group or individually, to talk through Strazheim's discussion questions altogether over hot cocoa or to quietly reflect in one's own time. Either way, this devotional is a sanctuary in and of itself. Endorsements “Karen Straszheim’s A Sanctuary in Our Midst will help you prepare for the Christmas season. She presents the Scriptures in a way that both refreshes the believer in Jesus and answers many questions of those who are seeking the true meaning of Christmas. Karen helps the reader understand the importance of preparing the heart for Christmas. It is refreshing in application and focuses upon God’s Word. Most of all, A Sanctuary in Our Midst will help you see, “Believing in Jesus is different than being religious.” -Pastor Earl Korhonen, World Missions Director, Association of Free, Lutheran Congregations “When I was young I fondly remember the church we attended did something that made quite an impression on me. Each year, after Christmas they removed the lights, decorations and all the branches from the beautiful large tree that stood in the front. At Easter time the trunk from that same Christmas tree became the symbol for the Cross of Christ's Crucifixion. When Christmas came each year I began to anticipate this transformation - looking not just at the outward beauty but past the branches to the very center of the tree. The author has done the same thing in this devotional. The daily readings and questions point to the incredible connection between Christmas and Easter making the Gospel of Christ the very heart of it all. It is a wonderful way to anticipate the holidays. 'Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!' (2 Cor. 9:15).” -Jennifer Voss-White, Student of the Word, Servant of Christ, Women's Ministry Leader “Looking for ways to better prepare your heart for the coming of Christ? This devotional is full of inspiration. Karen does an excellent job of using Scripture to lead the reader through prophesies and their fulfillment. Everyday testimonies help to apply these truths to our lives today.” -Jan McDermott, Retired Bible Camp Director, Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp, Story City, Iowa “Karen Straszheim’s . . . use of Scripture is an essential point in the Gospel: Jesus’ nativity is the fulfillment of our prophesied Messiah. Karen leads the student to a deep understanding of the Advent message and restores the real message of Christmas. I wish the reader could see her in action when leading non-believers to the centrality of the Scripture, the preeminence of Jesus as our sin bearer, and hear the loving care in her voice. Karen is a true and competent evangelist . . . intelligent, gentle, and forthright. I hope you will experience her evangelical gift here in her devotional.” -Curt Mobley, Teacher of English at the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Prague, Czech Republic, and Missionary with ReachGlobal

All of our celebratory activities of Christmas are merely the trimmings of the season. The heart of the season is JESUS. The Christmas story penned by Matthew and Luke, points to the indescribable, unspeakable, inexpressible giftJesus (2 Corinthians 9:15). The Nativity is the first chapter of the great historical event of Gods coming in the person of Jesus into the world. Each aspect of the nativity setting of Jesus birth points to Him as the I AM. The I AMs in the gospel of John will guide you through not only the season of thankfulness and joyful giving but through the entire year. I pray this small book of Christmas reflections will enrich your season of joy, and enhance the entire upcoming year. As you reflect on Gods grace by being born and walking the earth to bring you life, His love displayed for you at Calvary, and His provision for you and your family during the year, may you be drawn to or closer to Jesus.
