For more than forty years Jan Gehl has helped to transform urban environments around the world based on his research into the ways people actually use—or could use—the spaces where they live and work. In this revolutionary book, Gehl presents his latest work creating (or recreating) cityscapes on a human scale. He clearly explains the methods and tools he uses to reconfigure unworkable cityscapes into the landscapes he believes they should be: cities for people. Taking into account changing demographics and changing lifestyles, Gehl emphasizes four human issues that he sees as essential to successful city planning. He explains how to develop cities that are Lively, Safe, Sustainable, and Healthy. Focusing on these issues leads Gehl to think of even the largest city on a very small scale. Dados divulgados pela ONU em 2015 demonstram que a população mundial atingiu 7,3 bilhões de pessoas e as projeções de crescimento demográfico apontam que em 2050 a população deverá chegar a 9,7 bilhões de pessoas. No Brasil, 86% da população mora em áreas urbanizadas, porém, devido ao número crescente de pessoas habitando na zona urbana, faz-se necessário um planejamento urbano e uma gestão de cidades eficiente. Nesse contexto, as chamadas cidades inteligentes são criadas para auxiliar o poder público na resolução dos problemas decorrentes do aumento de pessoas que estão vivendo em zonas urbanas. Dessa forma, o objetivo geral deste livro é diagnosticar as características de cidade inteligente reconhecidas pelos habitantes da cidade de Taubaté-SP. Realizou-se uma pesquisa de abordagem quantitativa descritiva e utilizou-se da modelagem de equações estruturais baseada em variâncias. Dentro desse cenário, analisou-se o desempenho das características de Inteligências da Cidade, a partir das variáveis: economia, mobilidade, ambiente, cidadão, vida e governo inteligente. Desse modo, a pesquisa explicitou que mesmo o município possuindo várias iniciativas de utilização de ferramentas tecnológicas, ainda se faz necessário muito empenho do poder público para que a população interaja com a cidade no seu cotidiano, pois uma Cidade Inteligente não é somente o uso das TIC, mas sim a interação entre cidadão, cidade e poder público.
