This book analyzes women entrepreneurs in Muslim countries who are using Islamic values to develop and run small businesses. As a core case study, the authors are using Indonesia as it is the largest Muslim country in the world by population. The project examines supportive policies and economic programs in detail and considers their effects on the businesses of several women entrepreneurs. Additionally, the authors argue that this work-life balance is critical for the definition of a successful female Muslim entrepreneur. THIS BOOK examines a selection of fictional works by writers belonging to the Indonesian association of writers, Forum Lingkar Pena (Pen Circle Forum; hereafter referred to as FLP). Figures from 2010 suggest that this organisation had around 5,000 members across 93 Indonesian branches and ten overseas branches. Writers recruited and trained by FLP have produced approximately nine hundred published works. Their works are often categorised as Islamic or religious literature (sastra religi). This label-ling of FLP’s literary output as Islamic literature has arisen principally be-cause of the publicly expressed aims and beliefs of key FLP figures which include such notions as sastra dakwah (literature for religious propaga-tion). In order to contextualise the emergence of FLP in the final years of the twentieth century and to locate this organisation within wider Indo-nesian literary developments, it is necessary to take account of cultural debates that came to the fore with the profound social and political changes which accompanied the end of the New Order regime in 1998.

Ada dinamika yang terus bergerak secara teoritis dalam merespon perkembangan teori-teori feminisme yang mengalami kemajuan pesat sejak tahun 1970-an. Memandang bahwa perempuan secara universal memiliki nasib yang homogen, seperti yang dijelaskan oleh Gerakan Feminisme Gelombang Kedua dianggap oleh para feminis, yang kebanyakan bukan feminis kulit putih, terlalu mengeneralisasi persoalan perempuan (Mohanty, 1984; Crenshaw, 1992; Collins, 1989). Ketiganya sepakat bahwa perempuan memiliki nasib yang tidak sama dalam batas-batas sejarah, sosial, politik maupun geografis. Perspektif gender dengan fokus pada intersectionality menjadi cara untuk mengkonseptulisasikan hubungan antara sistem-sistem opresi yang membangun identitas kita yang bersifat multipel dan juga lokasi sosial kita yang berada di dalam hierarki kekuasaan. Idenfitas gender tidak muncul begitu saja tetapi berada di dalam sebuah sistem kekuasaan yang di dalamnya ada legitimasi dan privilese dari kelompok-kelompok yang menjadi kultur dominan.
