In a time of madness, is love worth the risk? As a maid in the Kremlin Palace, Inga is mostly invisible. Courtiers are likely to use and discard her if she lets them. A lesson she learns when her best friend is brutally attacked. Inga steers clear of romance, intrigue, and men in general afterwards. It makes for a lonely life but invisibility is the key to safety. As a boy in the Kremlin, Taras lost his mother to mysterious circumstances. He returns as a man to discover what really happened. Closed-mouthed courtiers make his task difficult. Dangers mount as Tsar Ivan IV, called Terrible, slides toward insanity. The opulence of Ivan’s court hides deadly secrets, and Taras must turn to the muddy streets of Moscow to learn the truth. When a brutal courtier sets his eyes on Inga, she turns to Taras for help. He pretends to take her as his mistress to save her from Sergei’s dangerous bed. It’s a compromising situation, but before long, true sparks ignite between them. Inga must decide if happiness with Taras is worth forfeiting her invisibility and breaking down the walls built up so carefully around her heart. If Inga and Taras don’t successfully traverse the dangers of the imperial court of Russia, they may be swept up in the blood bath of Ivan Grozny. Two more forgotten victims in a time of love and madness…. A sweeping historical epic full of wars, intrigues, death, and love. "Definitely ranks among the best of epic sagas!” –S. Wright

The second novel in the "enthralling" (Midwest Book Review) Annals of Drakis fantasy epic The Rhonas Empire of the elves is built upon an unquenchable thirst for conquest. The elves control the Aether—the mystical substance that fuels their magic. And one use of this Aether is to compel total obedience on the part of the slaves drawn from the races they have defeated. But there are legends that tell of an age when humans and the other slave races were free, ruling powerful empires of their own. Tales carried down from generation to generation speak of a hero who will lead an uprising against the empire. That hero, so the stories say, will be a human named Drakis. When a captive dwarf called Jugar works Aer magic to destroy the Aether wells of the Western Provinces, it signals the start of a rebellion straight out of legend. In the ensuing chaos, the warrior-slave named Drakis, along with a small group of fellow slaves, flees—lured on by a melody that coils itself around his mind and conjures disturbing visions of dark wings, claws, iridescent scales, and fire. Pursued by the Rhonas Iblisi Inquisitors, this desperate band of fugitives makes its way across the ocean only to find a desolated, seemingly lifeless land. Following the melody he alone can hear, Drakis stumbles on the incredible truth: dragons are real. Attacked by these fierce, fire-breathing beings, the group escapes through a fold that opens into the remains of a once-great empire. Cut off from the world they know, can they survive the dangers of this treacherous realm, and find a way back to those they left behind—bringing the truth of the legends to the army of the rebellion even now being raised in the name of Drakis?

Although many scholars recognize literary similarities between Hosea, Amos, Micah, and Zephaniah, defining the compositional relationship between these texts remains a matter of debate. Following the scholarly trajectory of exploring the compositional relationship between the Twelve prophets, several scholars argue that these four prophetic texts formed a precursory collection to the Book of the Twelve. Yet even among advocates for this ‘Book of the Four’ there remain differences in defining the form and function of the collection. By reexamining the literary parallels between these texts, Werse shows how different methodological convictions have led to the diverse composition models in the field today. Through careful consideration of emerging insights in the study of deuteronomism and scribalism, Werse provides an innovative composition model explaining how these four texts came to function as a collection in the wake of the traumatic destruction of Jerusalem. This volume explores a historic function of these prophetic voices by examining the editorial process that drew them together.
