Whether as excavators and re-enactors, or co-organising research campaigns and outreach activities, the participation of the general public in archaeology has become a well-represented practice, but the impact remains underexplored. Evaluating participation can influence fieldwork practice and enrich the academic discussion on public archaeology.

Sustainable Community Movement Organizations written by Francesca Forno and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-31 with Business & Economics categories.
This volume shines a light on Sustainable Community Movement Organizations (SCMOs), an emergent wave of non-hierarchical, community-based socio-economic movements, with alternative forms of consumption and production very much at their core. Extending beyond traditional ideas of cooperatives and mutualities, the essays in this collection explore new geographies of solidarity practices ranging from forms of horizontal democracy to interurban and transnational networks. The authors uniquely frame these movements within the Deleuzian concept of the ‘rhizome’, as a meshwork of alternative spaces, paths and trajectories. This connectivity is illustrated in case studies from around the world, ranging from protest movements in response to austerity measures in Southern Europe, to the Buen Vivir movement in the Andes, and Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) in the Caribbean and Canada. Positioning these cases in relation to current theoretical debates on Social Solidarity Economy, the authors specifically address the question of the persistence and the durability of the organizing practices in community economies. This book will be a valuable tool for academics and students of sustainable consumption, environmental policy, social policy, environmental economics, environmental management and sustainability studies more broadly.

Citizen Science In Southern European Archaeology written by Jesús Bermejo Tirado and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-30 with Social Science categories.
This book presents a valuable exploration of the potential for citizen science in archaeology within southern Europe. The examination of citizen science in archaeology has been heavily influenced by case studies and theories from Anglophone countries, where a distinctive policy and social framework exists. However, there is currently a notable absence of consideration on the subject in the Mediterranean context. This book, through an examination of the strengths and limitations of citizen science in southern Europe, provides fresh insights and perspectives that inform the development of more effective citizen science projects in southern Europe and beyond. It seeks not only to explore the region in question but also to facilitate cross-cultural and international collaboration and promote a greater understanding of the role of citizen science in diverse contexts. The chapters feature different study approaches: legal conceptions, case studies from Spain, Italy, and Greece, methodological, technical, and critical approaches, and updates of the citizen science literature, providing readers with diverse perspectives. As the first volume about citizen science in archaeological research and practice in Southern Europe, this book is for researchers in and practitioners of citizen science, archaeology, and Mediterranean Studies.

Citizens Without A City written by Jan-Jonathan Bock and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-01 with Social Science categories.
In 2009, after seismic tremors struck the Italian mountain town of L'Aquila, survivors were subjected to a "second earthquake"—invasive media attention and a relief effort that left them in a state of suspended citizenship as they were forcibly resettled and had to envision a new future. In Citizens without a City, Jan-Jonathan Bock reveals how a disproportionate government response exacerbated survivors' sense of crisis, divided the local population, and induced new types of political action. Italy's disenfranchising emergency reaction relocated citizens to camps and sites across a ruined townscape, without a plan for restoration or return. Through grassroots politics, arts and culture, commemoration rituals, architectural projects, and legal avenues, local people now sought to shape their hometown's recovery. Bock combines an analysis of the catastrophe's impact with insights into post-disaster civic life, urban heritage, the politics of mourning, and community fragmentation. A fascinating read for anyone interested in urban culture, disaster, and politics, Citizens without a City illustrates how survivors battled to retain a sense of purpose and community after the L'Aquila earthquake.

Communicating Science And Technology In Society written by Ana Delicado and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-22 with Social Science categories.
This volume addresses the engagement between science and society from multiple viewpoints. At a time when trust in experts is being questioned, misinformation is rife and scientific and technological development show growing social impact, the volume examines the challenges in involving the public in scientific debates and decisions. It takes into account societal needs and concerns in research, and analyses the interface between the roles of institutions and individuals. From environmental challenges to science communication, participatory technological design to animal experimentation, and transdisciplinarity to norms and values in science, the volume brings together research on areas in which scientists and citizens interact, across diverse, often understudied, socio-cultural contexts in Europe. It encompasses the natural sciences, engineering and the social sciences, and the chapters follow diverse theoretical frameworks and methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches. This volume contributes not just to scholarly knowledge on the topic of science and society relations, but also provides useful information for students, policy makers, journalists, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) researchers keen on engaging with their publics and conducting responsible research and innovation.
