Value is typically theorized from the frameworks of economic theory or of moral/ethical theory, but we need to instead think about value foremost as political. Alena Wolflink uncovers a tension in value discourses between material and aspirational life. As she shows, erasing this tension, as has been the historical tendency, can entrench existing configurations of power and privilege, while acknowledging the tension is a vital part of democratic practice. Using genealogical, conceptual-historical, and interpretive approaches, and drawing from such diverse sources as Aristotle, Anna Julia Cooper, Michael Warner, Alicia Garza, and Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Wolflink argues that abstractions of value discourse in both economic theory and moral philosophy have been complicit in devaluing the lives of women, queer people, and people of color. Yet she further argues that value claims nonetheless hold democratic potential as a means of asserting and defining priorities that center the role of political economy in the making of political communities. With many real-world examples vividly portrayed, Claiming Value is an unusually accessible work of political theory accessible to students in courses on political theory, moral philosophy, social theory, economic theory, democracy, social inequality, and more.

THINGS HAPPEN AND THINGS HAPPEN AT WORK. SOME GOOD, SOME NOT SO. More often than not a situation at work emerges as a tangle of what people think and believe to be so animated by differing perspectives on what happened, who or what caused it, and what to do next. A puzzle of sorts and like all puzzles tests your ingenuity and knowledge. This tangle of circumstance is set against a familiar backdrop: the real organization, a web of employment rules, a need for information, can be characterized as a conflict of sorts necessitating a measure of negotiation and, of course, requiring a series of informed decisions. SO, LET’S FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE WISE CHOICES. When Things Happen at Work: People, Circumstances, and What to Do Now is a compendium—a collection of concise but detailed information about the interrelated conditions in which work and workplaces exist and events occur; conflict, the inevitable result of people associating with one another; negotiation to reconcile that conflict, our primary inter-personal decision-making process, and finally best practices to manage workplace incidents that invariably arise. A practical balance between theory and practice, When Things Happen at Work is a comprehensive guide on key employment matters. A mix of personal experience, pragmatism, and theory makes When Things Happen at Work an essential resource for managers, human resource practitioners, and those responsible for inquiring into and/or investigating matters at work.

European Union Economic Diplomacy written by Dr Stephen Woolcock and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-28 with Political Science categories.
The European Union is a key player in international economic relations, but its exact role and how it goes about making decisions and negotiating is often poorly understood within and especially outside the EU. When does the EU play a proactive role and when does it follow? When is the EU a distinct actor and when is it just one level in a multi- level process of negotiation in which the member states are the main actors? Does the EU possess normative power in external economic relations? Does the EU have the capability and willingness to use its still significant economic power? European Union Economic Diplomacy provides the first comprehensive analysis of the factors that determine the role of the EU in economic diplomacy. In an up-to-date treatment that includes consideration of the impact of the Treaty of Lisbon, it contains a comprehensive explanation of decision making and negotiating processes in the core areas of trade, financial market regulation, environmental diplomacy and development co-operation. The book is intended for those interested in EU policy making, but also those who simply need to understand how the EU functions in the field of economic diplomacy.

3 D Negotiation written by David A. Lax and has been published by Harvard Business Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-08-24 with Business & Economics categories.
When discussing being stuck in a "win-win vs. win-lose" debate, most negotiation books focus on face-to-face tactics. Yet, table tactics are only the "first dimension" of David A. Lax and James K. Sebenius' pathbreaking 3-D Negotiation (TM) approach, developed from their decades of doing deals and analyzing great dealmakers. Moves in their "second dimension"—deal design—systematically unlock economic and noneconomic value by creatively structuring agreements. But what sets the 3-D approach apart is its "third dimension": setup. Before showing up at a bargaining session, 3-D Negotiators ensure that the right parties have been approached, in the right sequence, to address the right interests, under the right expectations, and facing the right consequences of walking away if there is no deal. This new arsenal of moves away from the table often has the greatest impact on the negotiated outcome. Packed with practical steps and cases, 3-D Negotiation demonstrates how superior setup moves plus insightful deal designs can enable you to reach remarkable agreements at the table, unattainable by standard tactics.
