Die Studie stellt das Leben und Wirken von Clara Grunwald und Maria Montessori dar, auf dem besonderen Hintergrund der Entwicklung der Montessori-Bewegung in Berlin der 20er Jahre bis zur Macht bernahme der Nationalsozialisten 1933 und deren Folgen. Bei dieser Untersuchung wird die Wirkungsweise von Clara Grunwald f r die Montessori-P dagogik in Deutschland, explizit in Berlin der Weimarer Republik verdeutlicht. Hier werden ihre Intention, ihre Einflussnahme und ihr Engagement f r die Etablierung der Montessori-P dagogik und die Entwicklung der Montessori-Bewegung in Berlin beschrieben. Zudem wird der hervortretende Konflikt zwischen Maria Montessori und Clara Grunwald mehrschichtig betrachtet, da verschiedene Faktoren die Entwicklung und Ausbreitung der Montessori-P dagogik beeinflussten. Der Konflikt zwischen den beiden Frauen zeigt schicksalhafte Auswirkungen auf die Person und das Wirken Clara Grunwalds, sowie auf die Montessori-Bewegung in Berlin. Die Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten 1933 hat gleichfalls schwerwiegende Auswirkung auf die Arbeit von Clara Grunwald und auf die Montessori-P dagogik in Deutschland, die den Niedergang der Montessori-P dagogik zur Folge hat. Vor diesem historischen Hintergrund wird die Entwicklung der Montessori-P dagogik nach Beendigung des Zweiten Weltkrieges bis in die Gegenwart betrachtet und kurz skizziert.

Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Die vorliegende Studie versteht sich als eine historisch-pädagogische Bestandsaufnahme in der Rekonstruktion der Lebensgeschichte und der Berufsbiographie von Clara Grunwald und Maria Montessori. Es ist mein Anliegen, die entwickelten und praktizierten pädagogischen Ideen von Maria Montessori und die innovativen Ansätze von Clara Grunwald in Erinnerung zu bringen, die durch die 1933 einsetzende Verdrängung der Montessori-Pädagogik in Berlin in Vergessenheit gerieten. Als ich im Jahre 2002 für das Thema „Stätten jüdischer Sozialarbeit in Berlin bis zum zweiten Weltkrieg - Ein Überblick“ recherchierte, las ich wiederholt den Namen Clara Grunwalds im Zusammenhang mit der Montessori-Pädagogik. Wer kennt Clara Grunwald, die sich intensiv mit der Reformpädagogik beschäftigte und die ‚Initiatorin’ der Montessori-Pädagogik in Berlin war, wenn nicht sogar, wie Manfred Berger schreibt: „ (...) Nestorin der Montessori-Pädagogik in Deutschland“? „Die Frauen der Reformpädagogik werden überstrahlt von einer wahren Lichtgestalt, nämlich Maria Montessori. Nur sie erscheint heute im Internet, nur sie hat eine weltweite Anhängerschaft nach sich gezogen und nur sie zählt zum Kern der Reformpädagogik“. Aufgrund meines persönlichen Interesses und verschiedener Recherchen in Archivquellen habe ich mich bei der Themenwahl des Buches für folgende Fragestellung entschieden: „Wer etablierte die Pädagogik der Maria Montessori vor 1933 in Berlin?“. Innerhalb der Literatur- und Archivrecherchen wurde mir deutlich, dass es in einzelner gegenwärtiger Sekundärliteratur zu ungenauen Informationen und Daten kommt. Diese Umstände machten weitere Recherchen notwendig, um die Angaben auf ihren authentischen Gehalt zu überprüfen. Die vorliegende Studie stützt sich auf umfangreiche Quellen. Trotz allem ist es nicht möglich, ein umfassendes und lückenloses Bild von Clara Grunwald zu skizzieren. Das vorliegende Material ist unvollständig bzw. detaillierte Unterlagen fehlen gänzlich. Die Studie stellt das Leben und Wirken von Clara Grunwald und Maria Montessori dar, auf dem besonderen Hintergrund der Entwicklung der Montessori-Bewegung in Berlin der 20er Jahre bis zur Machtübernahme der Nationalsozialisten 1933 und deren Folgen. Compares the privileged educational experience offered to the children of relocated Nazi scientists in Texas with the educational disadvantages faced by Mexican American students living in the same city. Educating the Enemy begins with the 144 children of Nazi scientists who moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1946 as part of the military program called Operation Paperclip. These German children were bused daily from a military outpost to four El Paso public schools. Though born into a fascist enemy nation, the German children were quickly integrated into the schools and, by proxy, American society. Their rapid assimilation offered evidence that American public schools played a vital role in ensuring the victory of democracy over fascism. Jonna Perrillo not only tells this fascinating story of Cold War educational policy, but she draws an important contrast with another, much more numerous population of children in the El Paso public schools: Mexican Americans. Like everywhere else in the Southwest, Mexican American children in El Paso were segregated into “Mexican” schools, where the children received a vastly different educational experience. Not only were they penalized for speaking Spanish—the only language all but a few spoke due to segregation—they were tracked for low-wage and low-prestige careers, with limited opportunities for economic success. Educating the Enemy charts what two groups of children—one that might have been considered the enemy, the other that was treated as such—reveal about the ways political assimilation has been treated by schools as an easier, more viable project than racial or ethnic assimilation.
