The optimization of optical systems is a very old problem. As soon as lens designers discovered the possibility of designing optical systems, the desire to improve those systems by the means of optimization began. For a long time the optimization of optical systems was connected with well-known mathematical theories of optimization which gave good results, but required lens designers to have a strong knowledge about optimized optical systems. In recent years modern optimization methods have been developed that are not primarily based on the known mathematical theories of optimization, but rather on analogies with nature. While searching for successful optimization methods, scientists noticed that the method of organic evolution (well-known Darwinian theory of evolution) represented an optimal strategy of adaptation of living organisms to their changing environment. If the method of organic evolution was very successful in nature, the principles of the biological evolution could be applied to the problem of optimization of complex technical systems.

Evolutionary Algorithms For Embedded System Design written by Rolf Drechsler and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Evolutionary Algorithms for Embedded System Design describes how Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) concepts can be applied to circuit and system design - an area where time-to-market demands are critical. EAs create an interesting alternative to other approaches since they can be scaled with the problem size and can be easily run on parallel computer systems. This book presents several successful EA techniques and shows how they can be applied at different levels of the design process. Starting on a high-level abstraction, where software components are dominant, several optimization steps are demonstrated, including DSP code optimization and test generation. Throughout the book, EAs are tested on real-world applications and on large problem instances. For each application the main criteria for the successful application in the corresponding domain are discussed. In addition, contributions from leading international researchers provide the reader with a variety of perspectives, including a special focus on the combination of EAs with problem specific heuristics. Evolutionary Algorithms for Embedded System Design is an excellent reference for both practitioners working in the area of circuit and system design and for researchers in the field of evolutionary concepts.

Soft Computing In Engineering Design And Manufacturing written by Pravir K. Chawdhry and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.
Soft Computing has emerged as an important approach towards achieving intelligent computational paradigms where key elements are learning from experience in the presence of uncertainties, fuzzy belief functioos, and ·evolutioo of the computing strategies of the learning agent itself. Fuzzy, neural and evolutionary computing are the three major themes of soft computing. The book presents original research papers dealing with the theory of soft computing and its applicatioos in engineering design and manufacturing. The methodologies have been applied to a large variety of real life problems. Applicatioo of soft computing has provided the opportunity to integrate human like 'vagueness' and real life 'uncertainty' to an otherwise 'hard' computer programme. Now, a computer programme can learn, adapt, and evolve using soft computing. The book identifies the strengths and Iimitatioos of soft cOOlputing techniques, particularly with reference to their engineering applications. The applications range fran design optimisatioo to scheduling and image analysis. Goal optimisatioo with incomplete infmnatioo and under uncertainty is the key to solving real-life problems in design and manufacturing. Soft computing techniques presented in this book address these issues. Computatiooal complexity and efficient implementatioo of these techniques are also major concerns for realising useful industrial applications of soft computing. The different parts in the book also address these issues. The book cootains 9 parts, 8 of which are based 00 papers fran the '2nd On-line World Conference 00 Soft Computing in Engineering Design and Manufacture (WSC2),.

Frontiers of Evolutionary Computation brings together eleven contributions by international leading researchers discussing what significant issues still remain unresolved in the field of Evolutionary Computation (Ee. They explore such topics as the role of building blocks, the balancing of exploration with exploitation, the modeling of EC algorithms, the connection with optimization theory and the role of EC as a meta-heuristic method, to name a few. The articles feature a mixture of informal discussion interspersed with formal statements, thus providing the reader an opportunity to observe a wide range of EC problems from the investigative perspective of world-renowned researchers. These prominent researchers include: Heinz M]hlenbein, Kenneth De Jong, Carlos Cotta and Pablo Moscato, Lee Altenberg, Gary A. Kochenberger, Fred Glover, Bahram Alidaee and Cesar Rego, William G. Macready, Christopher R. Stephens and Riccardo Poli, Lothar M. Schmitt, John R. Koza, Matthew J. Street and Martin A. Keane, Vivek Balaraman, Wolfgang Banzhaf and Julian Miller.
