Please join the Facebook group Japanese Plaster CraftEarthen walls have always been a part of Japanese culture. Due to habits of aesthetic interpretation, few people realize that all of Japan's castles, temples and tea houses are maintained using their traditional methods. Clay, sand, straw and other natural fibers, seaweed, wood and bamboo. These natural materials are used to make the Japanese earthen wall. Along with a wide variety of makes and models of trowels, extensive time-tested techniques are used to create beautifully appealing atmospheres out of earth. These can be incorporated into todays world-wide green and natural building movement to create a better balance between ourselves and our living environment.

A landmark modern classic about the Korean American immigrant experience and the dawn of Los Angeles’s Koreatown A Penguin Classic Kim Ronyoung (Gloria Hahn, 1926–1987) tells the story of Haesu and Chun, immigrants who fled Japanese-occupied Korea for Los Angeles in the decade prior to World War II, and their American-born children. First published in 1986, Clay Walls offers a portrait of what being Korean in California meant in the first half of the twentieth century and how these immigrants’ nationalist spirit helped them withstand racism and poverty. Kim explores the tensions within a family of immigrants and new Americans and brings to the forefront the themes of Korean immigration, U.S. racism, generational trauma, and the early decades of Los Angeles’s Koreatown from a Korean American woman’s point of view. Through three sections representing the perspectives of mother, father, and daughter, what resonates the most is the voice of a woman and her self-determination, through national identity, marriage, and motherhood.

"Clay Walls weaves the complex threads of Korean culture into the tapestry of American society while telling the story of the early Korean immigrants, who arrived in Los Angeles in the decade prior to World War II, and of their American born children. Haesu, a yangban of the nobility class, is betrothed against her wishes to Chun, a farmer's son. Bound not by love but by tradition, she follows him to America where they begin their life together. Born in a land where class defines one's status, Haesu's rank in the United States is acknowledged only by her fellow Koreans. Servility is anathema to her and she fiercely resists the slights she experiences in California. Chun, on the other hand, embodies the Taoist mentality. "If you want muddy waters to become clear, you have to lie still." he tells Haesu. He seeks no affirmation of his wotth from strangers, wanting it only from his resentful wife. These two irreconcilable strains of Eastern tradition, personified in Haesu and Chun, are treated as one by a disinterested America which fails to distinguish one Asian immigrant from another. Within the walls of their home, however, the Chuns wage unrelenting warfare over their differences. It remains for their children, born in the United States, to integrate these conflicts and, ultimately, find their place in the new World."--from jacket flap.

Conservation Of Clay And Chalk Buildings written by Gordon T. Pearson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-17 with Architecture categories.

This publication provides practical guidance on appropriate methods of conservation and repair of earth buildings using traditional building materials. It is the first major work on the subject since Clough Williams-Ellis and the Eastwick-Fields published "Building in Cob, Pise and Stabilized Earth" in 1947. The book deals with the nature of clay and chalk, their qualities and characteristics, and the way in which they have been used to construct buildings. Advice is given on soils analysis, the philosophy of repair techniques and the factors to be considered before altering, converting or extending an earth building. The author primarily advocates repair techniques using traditional materials, but he also considers the role played by certain modern materials, and assesses their suitability.
