This volume on continental margin sedimentation brings together an expert editorial and contributor team to create a state-of-the-art resource. Taking a global perspective, the book spans a range of timescales and content, ranging from how oceans transport particles, to how thick rock sequences are formed on continental margins. Summarizes and integrates our understanding of sedimentary processes and strata associated with fluvial dispersal systems on continental shelves and slopes Explores timescales ranging from particle transport at one extreme, to deep burial at the other Insights are presented for margins in general, and with focus on a tectonically active margin (northern California) and a passive margin (New Jersey), enabling detailed examination of the intricate relationships between a wide suite of sedimentary processes and their preserved stratigraphy Includes observational studies which document the processes and strata found on particular margins, in addition to numerical models and laboratory experimentation, which provide a quantitative basis for extrapolation in time and space of insights about continental-margin sedimentation Provides a research resource for scientists studying modern and ancient margins, and an educational text for advanced students in sedimentology and stratigraphy

Tropical Marine Environments Of Brazil written by José Maria Landim Dominguez and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-14 with Science categories.

This book provides an overview of the tropical marine environments of Brazil and a multi-disciplinary assessment of the impact of ongoing climate change in these environments. These changes will affect physical, biological and biogeochemical characteristics of coastal zones and oceans, modifying their ecological structure, their functions and the various services provided to humans and have the potential of causing severe socioeconomic impacts in local (coastal zone), regional (continental shelf and shallow seas) and global (ocean) scales. The Tropical Brazil presents a unique opportunity to evaluate how spatial and temporal heterogeneity influences the response and resilience of marine environments to climate changes. This region comprises the main reef constructions of the Western South Atlantic Ocean, the majority of the Brazilian deltas, one of the longest mangrove areas of the world, a very narrow and shallow continental shelf, extreme variations in sediment and nutrient flows,as well as undeniable importance in transferring heat and mass between hemispheres.

The South Atlantic In The Late Quaternary written by Gerold Wefer and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Science categories.

The South Atlantic plays a significant role as a link between the Antarctic Ocean and the North Atlantic, both in terms of the heat budget of the North Atlantic and the circulation of the entire ocean. The heat and mass exchanges between the Antarctic Ocean and the South Atlantic during the Late Quaternary have been investigated over the past ten years, including their impact on world climate. This has required the study of present-day early diagenetic processes in the water column and sediments, as well as sediment properties that have a close relationship to environmental parameters ("proxies"), which can be used to decipher past conditions (temperature, salinity, productivity, etc.). The interdisciplinary research project "The South Atlantic in the Late Quaternary - Reconstruction of material budgets and current systems" was a long-term scientific program at Bremen University. This program benefited from the sample material gained on several expeditions with the research vessels Meteor and Polarstern. This book presents the summarized results of the various topics of study in 30 articles arranged in seven sections. TOC:Particle Flux in the South Atlantic.- Documentation of the Marine Environment in Microfossil Assemblages and Stable Isotopes.- Physical Sedimentary Records of Palaeoenvironmental and Depositional Conditions.- Source and Transport Signatures of the Terrigenous Sediment Fraction.-Early Diagenetic Processes and Preservation of Primary Signals.-History of Upper Ocean Circulation.- History of Bottom and DeepWater Circulation.-

Brazilian Deep Sea Biodiversity written by Paulo Yukio Gomes Sumida and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-27 with Science categories.

This book presents the biodiversity of the Brazilian deep-sea and its many unique geological and biological features, as well as a review of its ecology, conservation, and future research needs. The deep-sea Brazilian margin has an incredible geological heterogeneity with numerous characteristic seafloor features, and latitudinal changes in marine productivity, oceanographic conditions and biological communities have resulted in very distinct biological assemblages at regional and bathymetric scales. It is a tremendously rich ecosystem in terms of living species, from which many well-known historical tales have originated, and with unique importance for the global climate and humanity. Nevertheless, vast areas of the Brazilian margin have been explored for fishing, oil and gas, and other commodities, likely impacting a variety of deep-sea habitats at scales and intensities yet undetermined. This book is intended for students, scholars, professionals and a wide audience interested in the deep-sea in general and, more specifically, in the South Atlantic deep-sea.
