The extended role physiotherapy has been given increased attention over the past decade in North America and Europe. New models of care with expanded scope of practice for allied health professionals have emerged to respond to a continuous increase in the cost of health care and physician and surgeon shortages, especially in settings that provide services to patients with musculoskeletal disorders in rural areas. This text book provides detailed information on history, etiology, clinical findings, and most importantly imaging characteristics of major conditions of the shoulder joint, which clinicians often face in the clinic. At present, there are no books that have incorporated the shoulder joint's different pathologies for extended role therapists, physician assistants, or family physicians in one place. This book facilitates practical learning for busy clinicians who wish to improve their expertise without having to read multiple books on the subject. The first nine chapters of the book incorporate the historical perspective of the common shoulder conditions with details on the pioneers who first introduced the pathology in the medical journals. The clinical and imaging hallmarks of each disorder then follow the historical perspective section to assist with identifying the pathology and selecting the best management. Chapters 10-12 provide detailed information on indications and contraindications for different modes of procedural imaging and the specific presentation of common shoulder pathologies on plain radiographs. Written by the experts in the field, Clinical and Radiological Examination of the Shoulder Joint is a valuable resource for advanced level physiotherapists, family medicine physicians, and specialized physician assistants.

In addition, it describes the arthroscopic treatment techniques most frequently employed in patients with these conditions and presents numerous arthroscopic images detailing characteristic findings. The shoulder is widely regarded as the most complex joint in the human body, displaying the widest range of motion. Knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy, ability to perform a proper physical examination, and appropriate selection of imaging modalities and interpretation of imaging appearances, often in close collaboration with an imaging expert, are all vital for correct diagnosis and choice of treatment approach. Surgeons and trainees will find this richly illustrated book to be an excellent educational guide and an instructive source of stepwise guidance from clinical presentation to achievement of desired treatment outcomes.

Diagnostic Clusters In Shoulder Conditions written by Puneet Monga and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-07 with Medical categories.

This book serves as a definitive guide to diagnosing shoulder conditions for all levels of orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in shoulder pathology, and for junior surgeons in training. It comes at a time when the knowledge regarding shoulder conditions has vastly improved, with the shoulder sub-speciality growing at a rapid pace in terms of practitioner numbers, procedures and evidence-base. However, with the multitude of special tests for shoulder conditions, the clinician faces a variety of sensitivities and specificities of the respective tests. It is unclear, in most circumstances, which single test is the best and growing evidence confirms that a set of tests is superior for diagnosing shoulder conditions. This forms the basis of cluster testing, which is the key concept for the title and content of this book. In many common shoulder diagnoses the preference for clusters has been reflected in both experience and clinical evidence, but for conditions where evidence for clusters is less clear, a consensus-based approach is utilised by the authors of this key resource for diagnosing shoulder conditions.

Clinical examination is an essential element in the assessment of functional status and location of pain in the shoulder joint. The examination is always performed with the patient’s shoulder region bare.It is advisable to use a goniometer when measuring the joint mobility.Clinical tests are fairly reliable in diagnosing e.g. rotator cuff disorders and in excluding extensive rotator cuff tears that require emergency operation .X-ray is the first-line instrumental investigation in a patient with shoulder pain. If the clinical presentation is such that surgery is considered, ultrasonography may be used to confirm a rotator cuff tear .If needed, the more costly contrast-enhanced MRI scan can be used to yield a more accurate picture of the shoulder. An extensive rotator cuff tear has to be operated on within a few weeks from the injury in order to guarantee a good result.

This book covers all aspects of imaging diagnosis of shoulder disorders and explains the treatment implications of imaging findings from a clinical perspective. After discussion of anatomy, shoulder biomechanics, and the relevant imaging techniques, a wide spectrum of disorders is addressed in a series of dedicated chapters on rotator cuff injuries and impingement syndromes, glenohumeral instability, SLAP tears and microinstability, biceps tendon and rotator interval pathology, shoulder girdle fractures, shoulder arthritides, tumors and tumor-like conditions, and entrapment neuropathies. Separate consideration is also given to the pediatric shoulder and to preoperative planning, postoperative imaging, and surgical techniques in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty. The unique anatomy and range of motion of the shoulder joint can present a diagnostic challenge. Careful physical examination and radiographic findings often provide important clues in the differential diagnosis and in many instances may be sufficient for the assessment of patients with shoulder pathology. However, characterization of soft tissue injuries and radiographically occult osseous pathology is often facilitated by the use of advanced imaging techniques, including CT, US, and MRI, for the diagnostic workup of internal derangements affecting the shoulder joint. Readers will find this excellently illustrated book to be an invaluable aid to image interpretation when employing these techniques and a helpful guide to treatment.
