Infectious diseases as a specialty suffers from many unique challenges stemming from lower salaries compared to other medical specialties and difficulty keeping the younger demographic within the field. Most textbooks on infectious diseases take a disease-specific and/or organ-specific approach. In this book a patient-centred approach is taken.
