Closed-loop neurophysiology has been accelerated by recent software and hardware developments and by the emergence of novel tools to control neuronal activity with spatial and temporal precision, in which stimuli are delivered in real time based on recordings or behavior. Real-time stimulation feedback enables a wide range of innovative studies of information processing and plasticity in neuronal networks. This Research Topic e-Book comprises 16 Original Research Articles, seven Methods Articles, and seven Reviews, Mini- Reviews, and Perspectives, all peer-reviewed and published in Frontiers in Neural Circuits. The contributions deal with closed loop neurophysiology experiments at a variety of levels of neural circuit complexity. Some include modeling and theoretical analyses. New enabling technologies and techniques are described. Novel work is presented from experiments in vitro, in vivo, and in humans, along with their clinical and technological implications for improving the human condition.

As design continues to impact our products, services, and solutions at scale, it is more important than ever to understand the systems and context that surround design decisions. Closing the Loop will introduce you to a powerful systems thinking mindset and provide you with the tools and frameworks to define the systems that surround your work. “Cababa's book comes at a crucial moment for design, and points the way toward a more inclusive, meaningful future for our work.” —David Dylan Thomas, author, Design for Cognitive Bias Who Should Read This Book? This book is for practitioners who want to incorporate systems-thinking methods into their practice. Design researchers, strategists, and experience designers will benefit from the book’s tools and instruction to broaden their perspectives, as well as people from technology, healthcare, education, and other spaces in which human-centered design is incorporated. TakeawaysReaders will learn to: Combine user-centered design with systems thinking to understand interconnections and interventions to create goals that benefit society. Expand their thinking about what constitutes problem-solving in order to reframe problem spaces. Map the status quo in order to better envision the future. Kick off primary research by conducting interviews with subject matter experts. Use stakeholder maps as a form of analysis and synthesis output. Create a causal loop map to articulate systems forces in the form of cause and effect. Develop a theory of change to plan initiatives that will lead to the desired outcomes and impact. Use the futures wheel as a tool to imagine the impact of decisions.

Resource Recovery From Water written by Ilje Pikaar and has been published by IWA Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-15 with Science categories.

Throughout history, the first and foremost role of urban water management has been the protection human health and the local aquatic environment. To this end, the practice of (waste-)water treatment has maintained a central focus on the removal of pollutants through dissipative pathways. Approaches like –in case of wastewater treatment- the activated sludge process, which make ‘hazardous things’ disappear, have benefitted our society tremendously by safeguarding human and environmental health. While conventional (waste-)water treatment is regarded as one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century, these dissipative approaches will not suffice in the 21th century as we enter the era of the circular economy. A key challenge for the future of urban water management is the need to re-envision the role of water infrastructure, still holding paramount the safeguard of human and environmental health while also becoming a more proactive force for sustainable development through the recovery of resources embedded in urban water. This book aims (i) to explain the basic principles governing resource recovery from water (how much is there, really); (ii) to provide comprehensive overview and critical assessment of the established and emerging technologies for resource recovery from water, and (iii) to put resource recovery from water in a legal, economic (including the economy of scale of recovered products), social (consumer’s point of view), and environmental sustainability framework. This book serves as a powerful teaching tool at the graduate entry master level aiming to developing the next generation of engineers and experts and is also highly relevant for seasoned water professionals and practicing engineers.
