Cosa sono i gruppi di auto-mutuo aiuto? A cosa servono? Chi vi partecipa? Attraverso l’evoluzione di responsabilità condivise tra i membri di un gruppo, si acquisisce la capacità di risolvere autonomamente i propri problemi con maturità, serenità e saggezza; questo è il principio che ispira ogni attività quotidiana del gruppo. Caratteristiche peculiari di ogni GAMA infatti, sono la condivisione del medesimo disagio, la certezza che lo scambio di pensieri, emozioni e sensazioni circa la stessa problematica, possa portare al raggiungimento degli obiettivi preposti dai partecipanti, alla risoluzione dei loro problemi e all’ottenimento di una buona dose di assertività e resilienza. Questo testo ripercorre le tappe che hanno portato alla nascita di tali gruppi, le varie tipologie esistenti, le caratteristiche, i principi ed i valori propri di ogni gruppo. Il volume esamina anche il ruolo del facilitatore/conduttore e delle altre figure istituzionali dei GAMA. Definisce le tappe da seguire per avviare un gruppo di auto-mutuo aiuto e termina con una serie di testimonianze di alcuni privilegiati esperti del fenomeno in Italia. Francesca Sacco nasce a Lamezia Terme (Cz) nel 1984. Assistente sociale specialista. Ho conseguito la laurea triennale e poi quella specialistica presso l’Università Magna Grǽcia di Catanzaro con una tesi in sociologia della devianza e, successivamente ho conseguito un Master in Educatore Sociale presso un’agenzia di formazione e produzione educativa specializzata in Scienze Sociali. Si occupa della conduzione e facilitazione di diversi gruppi di auto–mutuo aiuto sia in situazioni vis à vis che online. Ha ideato e condotto laboratori creativi e di crescita per donne, avvalendosi dell’uso delle arti terapie e della narrazione e, laboratori ludico-creativi ed esperienziali per bambini. Si occupa di formazione professionale e della stesura di articoli prevalentemente di carattere sociale.

Di fronte alla grande eterogeneità di usi e abusi di sostanze si impone innanzi tutto per il sistema sanitario il tema dell'efficacia degli interventi. In tal senso vanno indirizzate la valutazione della qualità e la ricerca dell'outcome nei servizi pubblici, i SerT, come in quelli privati, le Comunità terapeutiche. La complessità del tema droghe, la multiprofessionalità psico-socio-sanitaria dell'offerta di prestazioni e servizi la governance dei servizi prevenzione e cura invitano direttori, operatori, cittadini a concentrarsi sulla valutazione della qualità in un'ottica di qualità totale e di miglioramento continuo. Il volume, nella consapevolezza della complessità sopra esposta, intende offrire, a chi ogni giorno si confronta con la realtà dei servizi clinici e sociali, pubblici e privati, un quadro complessivo dell'argomento. Il panorama europeo, viene affrontato grazie alla valutazione di due Osservatori privilegiati come l'Osservatorio europeo di Lisbona e quello italiano del Ministero del Welfare, nonché grazie alle maggiori ricerche a livello internazionale. In ambito italiano sono presentati la governance del sistema dei servizi di welfare, il progetto nazionale sulla valutazione della qualità nei SerT, il quadro normativo culturale sull'accreditamento dei servizi sanitari e la sperimentazione della valutazione dell'outcome e della customer satisfaction. A livello operativo sono ampiamente illustrate le esperienze di valutazione svolte in alcuni SerT dell'Emilia Romagna (Cesena, Ferrara, Reggio Emilia, Rimini) che, come sottolinea Mauro Palumbo, si caratterizzano "per la loro sperimentalità, per l'ampiezza dei risultati conoscitivi e per gli spunti metodologici offerti e che per questo oltre a proporsi come un interessante case study possono rappresentare una buona pratica trasferibile."

Understanding the history of psychiatry requires an accurate view of its function and purpose. In this provocative new study, Szasz challenges conventional beliefs about psychiatry. He asserts that, in fact, psychiatrists are not concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of bona fide illnesses. Psychiatric tradition, social expectation, and the law make it clear that coercion is the profession's determining characteristic. Psychiatrists may "diagnose" or "treat" people without their consent or even against their clearly expressed wishes, and these involuntary psychiatric interventions are as different as are sexual relations between consenting adults and the sexual violence we call "rape." But the point is not merely the difference between coerced and consensual psychiatry, but to contrast them. The term "psychiatry" ought to be applied to one or the other, but not both. As long as psychiatrists and society refuse to recognize this, there can be no real psychiatric historiography. The coercive character of psychiatry was more apparent in the past than it is now. Then, insanity was synonymous with unfitness for liberty. Toward the end of the nineteenth century, a new type of psychiatric relationship developed, when people experiencing so-called "nervous symptoms," sought help. This led to a distinction between two kinds of mental diseases: neuroses and psychoses. Persons who complained about their own behavior were classified as neurotic, whereas persons about whose behavior others complained were classified as psychotic. The legal, medical, psychiatric, and social denial of this simple distinction and its far-reaching implications undergirds the house of cards that is modern psychiatry. Coercion as Cure is the most important book by Szasz since his landmark The Myth of Mental Illness.
