Cognitive Remediation Of Executive And Adaptive Deficits In Youth C Ready written by Donna L. Murdaugh and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Medical categories.

This book is a comprehensive and contextual guide to implementation of a family-systems focused, culturally competent cognitive remediation program for youth with neurological and medical disorders. The primary goal of the C-READY program is to guide successful transitioning to adult healthcare providers and medical management, and even more so, successful transition to adult independence. The book is divided into three main parts: Part 1 provides the empirical evidence and theoretical framework for the development of the C-READY program, outlining the brain injury and recovery model in which the program is based, with specific attention to transition of care needs. Part 2 is the "nuts and bolts" of the program, providing the framework and content of the C-READY program so that it can be implemented in practice. Woven throughout the chapters are vignettes providing patient examples, reflecting the importance of considering diverse sociocultural contexts. Finally, Part 3 highlights additional considerations important to implementation of the C-READY program, including adaptations of special populations and decreasing barriers to care for health disparity populations. Overall, this book is a useful reference for neuropsychologists, psychologists, and other professionals interested in implementing the C-READY program within their professional setting.

"In order to best understand the impact an intervention can have on pediatric patients, a basic understanding of both brain development and brain injury are necessary. Initial theories of brain injury proposed an advantage of early age, suggesting greater plasticity of the brain. However, growing literature supports the contrasting heuristic provided by Maureen Dennis.1 This widely accepted theory emphasizes the increased vulnerability of the developing brain. Instead of focusing solely on the age of the child at brain injury to illustrate the vulnerability of the brain, Dennis recommends examining the extent to which a skill is developed at the time of injury"--

Hoarding disorder is the excessive saving of objects and difficulty parting with them to a point that interferes with one's ability to properly use rooms and furnishings in the home. Hoarding can become dangerous, sometimes resulting in structural problems and fires, or in hazardous sanitary conditions. Studies indicate that around one in every 25 people suffers from hoarding. This means that almost all of us know someone who hoards. Hoarding: What Everyone Needs to Know® demystifies this complex problem, what it looks like and why it may develop, and how it can be treated. With their combined expertise in psychological treatments for hoarding and community interventions, Drs. Steketee and Bratiotis explain how to understand hoarding as a mental illness, describing the disorder in layman's terms and explaining the various facets and manifestations of the behavior. Chapters focus on one or more common questions regarding diagnosis, features, how to assess severity, and treatment. The book will dispel myths and help readers identify hoarding that touches their own lives. As such it will be of great value not only to those who suspect a loved one may be hoarding, but also to first responders, such as firefighters, public health officials, and housing and social service personnel, who will find here an essential resource for use in the field.

Theater Of Disorder written by Brant Wenegrat and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-10-04 with Psychology categories.

There are certain phenomena, such as hypnosis, hysteria, multiple personality disorder, recovered memory syndrome, claims of satanic ritual abuse, alien abduction syndrome, and culture-specific disorders that, although common, are difficult to explain completely. The purpose of this volume is to apply a model of social relations to these phenomena in order to provide a different explanation for them. Wenegrat argues that they are socially constructed illness roles or purposive behavior patterns into which patients fall while receiving either unintentional or intentional cues during interactions with caretakers and authority figures. The application of the social-relations model raises some important, yet previously overlooked, questions about these phenomena. It also illustrates some important aspects of human nature and consciousness, places illness behaviors in their larger, cultural context, and shows the way to a new and different view of mental life.
