Leila con singular complacencia por la exquisita erudicion que contenia y por las noticias que en ella se hallaban de mu chos poetas castellanos antiguos casi del to do desconocidos. Pareciome que acaso seria el mejor documento que nos ha quedado de nuestros antepasados para fundar en el la historia de la poesia castellana. Y doliendo me de que no se hubiese ya dado a luz, entre en gran deseo de publicarla. Pero con siderando que impresa ocuparia poco mas de un pliego y que por eso quedaria casi tan expuesta a extraviarse como quando andaba manuscrita; resolvi ponerle algunas notas pa ra que le sirviesen de luz, y con ellas for mase ya que no un libro a lo menos un quaderno.
