This book is about the impact of the 'Icon Age' on people's collecting practices. The Icon Age is when objects began to be represented on computer screens via icons. It focuses on how the Icon Age has affected how people do things associated with collections, from their inception to their disposal and everything in-between. It also looks at different kinds of collections and how they are managed across seven key collecting contexts: accumulations; libraries; filing-systems; archives; museums and galleries; private collections; and amateur collections. To inform this, studies were undertaken of how collecting was done across a range of diverse collections. The book also presents a taxonomy of collectable object types, including new types of objects that have appeared since the onset of the Icon Age. The book draws out important lessons regarding the impact of IT on collecting practices and contexts. It also suggests that, where contexts use digital practices, these exhibit an increasing level of conformity. The book concludes by looking beyond the Icon Age to the potential impact on collecting of new kinds of computing technology.

“The Collected Works of Leonard Wannabe” tells of the professional trials and tribulations experienced by one of today’s most-talented, least-published author/songwriters, Leonard Greenberg. The first section, Remembrances of Encounters Past, recounts the author’s dealings with three icons of modern American culture: Isaac Asimov, Stephen Sondheim, and Beverly Sills. The second section, Short Stories, describes three episodes of a strictly fictional nature, each with a memorable, somewhat shocking ending. The third and last section, Poems and Songs, contains the lyrics to some forty of the over 200 musical compositions that Mr. Wannabe (oops, Greenberg) has produced in the past number of years.

Collecting And Provenance written by Andrea M. Gáldy and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-21 with Art categories.

This collection of essays highlights the enduring significance of provenance and its implications for historians and art historians, as well as students and researchers engaged in museum studies. It also offers an opportunity to demonstrate its relevance to other fields of expertise, such as conservation, visual culture studies, aesthetics, authentication and connoisseurship versus technology as a means of establishing attributions and detecting forgeries. Provenance is still of vital importance to jurisdiction, whether it concerns property law or ownership. It also remains topical because of the ongoing debates over looted art in the 1930s and 1940s and the illicit trade in antiquities conducted from Iraq and Syria by terrorist groups.

Icons Of The American Comic Book written by Randy Duncan and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-29 with Social Science categories.

This book explores how the heroes and villains of popular comic books—and the creators of these icons of our culture—reflect the American experience out of which they sprang, and how they have achieved relevance by adapting to, and perhaps influencing, the evolving American character. Multiple generations have thrilled to the exploits of the heroes and villains of American comic books. These imaginary characters permeate our culture—even Americans who have never read a comic book grasp what the most well-known examples represent. But these comic book characters, and their creators, do more than simply thrill: they make us consider who we are and who we aspire to be. Icons of the American Comic Book: From Captain America to Wonder Woman contains 100 entries that provide historical background, explore the impact of the comic-book character on American culture, and summarize what is iconic about the subject of the entry. Each entry also lists essential works, suggests further readings, and contains at least one sidebar that provides entertaining and often quirky insight not covered in the main entry. This two-volume work examines fascinating subjects, such as how the superhero concept embodied the essence of American culture in the 1930s; and the ways in which comic book icons have evolved to reflect changing circumstances, values, and attitudes regarding cultural diversity. The book's coverage extends beyond just characters, as it also includes entries devoted to creators, publishers, titles, and even comic book related phenomena that have had enduring significance.
