International Series of Monographs in Natural Philosophy: Collective Oscillations in a Plasma, Volume 7 presents specific topics within the general field of radio waves propagation. This book contains five chapters that address the theory of linear oscillations in a plasma, the spectra of the eigen oscillations, and the mechanism of high-frequency heating. The opening chapters deal with the self-consistent fields; development of initial perturbation; dispersion permittivity tensor of a plasma in a magnetic field; effect of thermal motion of particles on low-frequency resonances; excitation of oscillations by modulated azimuthal currents; and cyclotron damping of low-frequency oscillations. The next chapters describe the nature of beam instability, the fluctuations in a free equilibrium plasma, and the current causing scattered waves. A study of the probability of scattering is presented. The concluding chapters are devoted to the scattering of electromagnetic waves in a plasma-beam system and the coefficient of reflection determination. The book can provide useful information to scientists, physicists, students, and researchers.

A plasmon is a quantum of plasma oscillation. The plasmon is a quasiparticle resulting from the quantisation of plasma oscillations just as photons and phonons are quantisations of light and heat. Plasmons are collective oscillations of the free electron gas density, for example, at optical frequencies. Plasmons can couple with a photon to create another quasiparticle called a plasma polariton. This book presents topical research data in the study of plasmons, including the profile control of the obtainable gold nanostructures for localised surface plasmon resonance application; cutting edge techniques to improve signal sensitivity and assay performance for surface plasmon resonance immunobiosensors; the application of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology for elucidating enzymatic reactions involving nucleic acids; and, graded plasmonic structures and their properties.

"Blurb & Contents" "The reader is treated to constantly refreshing and engaging commentary and opinion that always informs....As she depicts them, the problems of the universe are always fascinating and, most of all, they are alive and compelling." David DeVorkin, Sky & Telescope Virginia Trimble offers readers a fascinating and accessible tour of the stars. An astronomer with shared appointments in California and Maryland, the author ranges over a large portion of the universe as she discusses the search for life on other planets, how galaxies form, why stars explode and die, and the nature of the elusive dark matter in the universe. She also explains the astronomical significance of Cheeps' pyramid and leads the reader through scientific speculation about what and when the Star of Bethlehem might have been. Throughout, Trimble points to the exciting unanswered questions that still perplex the field and considers the formidable tasks to be faced by the next generation of young astronomers.

An Introduction To The Theory Of Plasma Turbulence written by V. N. Tsytovich and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-29 with Science categories.

An Introduction to the Theory of Plasma Turbulence is a collection of lectures given by the author at Culham laboratory. The book deals with developments on the theory of plasma turbulence. The author describes plasma properties in the turbulent regions as mostly non-linear in nature, and notes that these properties can be regarded as a universal spectrum independent of any type of instability. The text then discusses the general problems of the theory of plasma turbulence. The author also shows that elementary excitation of ""dressed"" particles have a finite lifetime associated with non-linear interactions. The book then discusses the excitation of ion-sound turbulence using different processes, for example, shock waves; the text also analyzes the kind of non-linear interactions present in such energy transfer. The author also explains the Langmuir plasma oscillations — a typical collective plasma motion that can be excited using different types of mechanism such as an electron beam. The book then describes the electromagnetic properties of turbulent plasma and relates the state of turbulent plasma as a natural occurrence in the universe. The book notes the problem of cosmic rays, not as an energy transfer to faster particles, but as an energy distribution between particles. The text will prove valuable for nuclear physicists, scientists, and academicians in the field of quantum mechanics.
