En este ensayo, el autor plasma unos desafiantes y controversiales conceptos sobre el origen del Gran Cañón del Colorado, los cuales, aún cuando él insiste en que son totalmente evidentes, a las demás personas nos resultan difíciles de digerir. Además, utilizando la misma tónica del tema del Gran Cañón, niega que los glaciares tengan el poder erosivo que los expertos les otorgan, como en la formación del Valle de Yosemite. Sin embargo, aún más controversial puede resultar la negación que hace de la existencia de las Placas Tectónicas, y en forma categórica afirma que, aún cuando los científicos aseguran que la teoría de las Placas Tectónicas da una explicación coherente y elegante sobre la supuesta formación y deriva continentales, esta teoría le parece francamente ridícula y absurda y, por supuesto, expone con sobriedad y sencillez las razones por las que contradice tal teoría. Adelantándose al pensamiento de los lectores, el mismo autor se pregunta por qué tuvo que ser él quien desarrollara esta teoría, si es carente de toda instrucción en la materia. El autor ha declarado que está consciente de la oposición y de las críticas a que se verá expuesto, sin embargo, menciona que está dispuesto a defender su afirmación en cualquier foro y ante cualquier personaje.

This volume studies the driving dynamic for thick-skin tectonics. It evaluates the role of various factors that control the development of thick-skin architecture. The studied driving dynamics include individual plate movement rates, overall convergence rates, orogen movement sense with respect to mantle flow and pro-wedge versus retro-wedge location.
