This book is a presentation of my recent research work into the theory and applications of mathematical relations between finite sets. The consequent results and concepts are expressed in 'conjunction' with the idea of a union of simplicial complexes and the algorithms and overall methodology have become known as Q-Analysis. The mathematical ideas are essentially comhinatorial and are developed in Section-A of the book, whilst Section-R contains an application to a community study (that of the IJniversity of Rssex). All of the work has been published elsewhere, in the usual form of papers, and a comprehensive introduction to the whole approach will be found in my earlier book, Mathematical Structure in Human Affairs (Heinemann, London 1974). Much of the research work referred to in this present hook would not have been possible without the co-operation of my research team, of whom I would particularly like to thank J.II. Johnson, and its puhlication owes a lot to the secretarial help provided by ~Iary Low. R.H. Atkin IJniversity of Rssex U.K.

This book is prepared as a combination of the manuscripts submitted by respected mathematicians and scientists around the world. As an editor, I truly enjoyed reading each manuscript. Not only will the methods and explanations help you to understand more about graph theory, but I also hope you will find it joyful to discover ways that you can apply graph theory in your scientific field. I believe the book can be read from the beginning to the end at once. However, the book can also be used as a reference guide in order to turn back to it when it is needed. I have to mention that this book assumes the reader to have a basic knowledge about graph theory. The very basics of the theory and terms are not explained at the beginner level. I hope this book will support many applied and research scientists from different scientific fields.

Simplicial Complexes In Complex Systems In Search For Alternatives written by Yi Zhao and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-25 with Mathematics categories.
For the last few decades researchers from different fields gather their findings and knowledge trying to give a shape to the new science of complex systems. To address this problem, new tools and methods have to be established. A new, or more precisely an alternative, framework for the characterization of complex system was proposed. In this book we will introduce the applicability of applicability of simplicial complexes in the science of complex systems. After introducing the main definitions and properties of simplicial complexes necessary for representation and analysis of complex systems, we will illustrate the usefulness and versatility of tools and concepts related to the simplicial complexes.

Diagrams are essential in most fields of human activity. There is substan tial interest in diagrams and their use in many academic disciplines for the potential benefits they may confer on a wide range of tasks. Are we now in a position to claim that we have a science of diagrams-that is, a science which takes the nature of diagrams and their use as the central phenom ena of interest? If we have a science of diagrams it is certainly constituted from multiple disciplines, including cognitive science, psychology, artificial intelligence, logic, mathematics, and others. If there is a science of diagrams, then like other sciences there is an appli cations, or engineering, discipline that exists alongside the science. Applica tions and engineering provide tests of the theories and principles discovered by the science and extend the scope of the phenomena to be studied by gen erating new uses of diagrams, new media for presenting diagrams, or novel classes of diagram. This applications and engineering side of the science of di agrams also comprises multiple disciplines, including education, architecture, computer science, mathematics, human-computer interaction, knowledge ac quisition, graphic design, engineering, history of science, statistics, medicine, biology, and others.

The objective of the book is to make accessible the ways in whichsocial network analysis (SNA) may be used to observe, monitor andanalyse systems and relationships in major construction projectcoalitions. Although this has been an established analyticaltechnique in the US for some time, it is only now being developedin the UK. Having spent nearly two decades investigating major projectrelationships using SNA, the author has brought togethermathematical and sociological methods, and major projectrelationships in a manner that will inspire both academic interestand a desire to apply these concepts and techniques to liveconstruction projects. Case studies include projects from two ofthe UKs largest property developers, the UK Ministry of Defence anda County Council. SNA is innovative - but potentially inaccessible to projectmanagement analysts and practitioners. This book will provide clearand relevant explanation and illustration of the possibilities ofusing SNA in a major project environment. In addition to offering the potential; for sophisticatedretrospective analysis of a wide range of systems associated withconstruction and engineering project coalitions, the author looksat how we might apply the network analysis findings to the designand management of project and supply chain networks.
