One of the main objectives of this lecture is to summarize the results of recent research activities of the authors on the subject of implanted antennas for medical wireless communication systems. It is anticipated that ever sophisticated medical devices will be implanted inside the human body for medical telemetry and telemedicine. To establish effective and efficient wireless links with these devices, it is pivotal to give special attention to the antenna designs that are required to be low profile, small, safe and cost effective. In this book, it is demonstrated how advanced electromagnetic numerical techniques can be utilized to design these antennas inside as realistic human body environment as possible. Also it is shown how simplified models can assist the initial designs of these antennas in an efficient manner.

Techniques For Eliminating Baseband Voice Interference With Telemetry For The Apollo Communication System written by G. Dickey Arndt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970 with Aeronautics categories.

Excessive telemetry error rates caused by baseband voice interference occur in several modes of the Apollo communication system. Demodulation, using essentially nonlinear quadrature phase detection, causes voice terms to appear in the telemetry spectrum. In this report, two methods which effectively linearize the demodulation process are used to reduce the voice interference. One method uses a negative feedback loop incorporated around the present nonlinear phase detector. The other method uses a frequency-modulation demodulator preceded by a composite filter containing three band-pass filters in parallel. The theoretical development, construction, and testing of both methods are presented. Significant improvement in telemetry performance is obtained. Results show that voice interference to both the 1.6- and 51.2-kbps telemetry data is negligible for all spacecraft/ground-station conditions when using either of the two methods. It is recommended that the negative-feedback-loop method be implemented in the Manned Space Flight Network ground stations as a result of its relative simplicity and superior performance.

Today, wireless infrared transmission has entered our homes, offices, industry and health care, with applications in the field of remote control, telemetry, and local communication. This book is about the underlying technology. As it is an outgrowth of my Ph.D. thesis, the emphasis is on fundamental aspects rather than industrial aspects, like the standardization effort by the IrDA [7]. I guess that this is not a drawback, as, eventually, the laws of physics apply to all of us! As the applied radiation is not necessarily in the infrared, throughout the book we usually prefer the term optical transmission. As most equipment is battery-powered, the emphasis is on power optimiza tion of the optical transmission system. System parameters as well as environ mental parameters that determine the eventual transmission quality are iden tified, to facilitate well-reasoned system design. Many design rules, based on calculations, measurements and simulations are presented to help the designer push the performance close to the limits set by nature and the available tech nology. The first chapters introduce the subject and the present the scope of the book. Then, the basic transmission link is introduced in chapter 3, and strate gies to optimize its signal-to-noise ratio are discussed. Lighting flicker is identi fied as a possible source of interference. Then, receiver noise and bandwidth are discussed in chapter 4, mainly based on the material presented in [66], [67], [69].

High Gain Uhf Backfire Antenna For Communications Telemetry And Radio Astronomy written by Hermann W. Ehrenspeck and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1967 with Antennas (Electronics) categories.

The backfire antenna described combines the structural advantages of a single endfire with the high gain of a reflector antenna. With its principal application in the gain range between 15 and 30 dB where ordinary endfire antennas become impractically long and paraboloidal antennas too expensive, it should prove to be especially advantageous for telemetry and radio astronomy applications in the 100- to 2000-MHz frequency range. The high gain of the backfire is based on the high-amplitude standing-wave field distribution formed between two planar reflectors. The space between the reflectors acts like an open resonating cavity that in basic configuration and function resembles a Fabrey-Perot laser cavity. An S-band model of a 4.0-wavelength backfire produces a gain of 23.5 dB at its optimum frequency, which corresponds to the gain of an equal-size paraboloidal antenna of 60% efficiency. Patterns show a very low side- and backlobe level over a frequency range of 1.25 to 1. Design information for these backfire antennas is given. Compared with an optimized equal-length Yagi, the backfire antenna produces an increase in gain of more than 8 dB. To achieve a gain of this magnitude with an ordinary array, one of two recently built antennas for satellite applications uses 16 Yagis, each 2.0 wavelength long, to produce a gain of 22.4 dB, and another uses 36 cavity-backed slots to produce 21.2 dB. These results emphasize the advantages of the single-element backfire antenna, whose 23.5 dB gain is achieved through a simple structural design that does not depend on the complicated feed systems that are necessary components in multielement arrays.
