This book offers means to handle interference as a central problem of operating wireless networks. It investigates centralized and decentralized methods to avoid and handle interference as well as approaches that resolve interference constructively. The latter type of approach tries to solve the joint detection and estimation problem of several data streams that share a common medium. In fact, an exciting insight into the operation of networks is that it may be beneficial, in terms of an overall throughput, to actively create and manage interference. Thus, when handled properly, "mixing" of data in networks becomes a useful tool of operation rather than the nuisance as which it has been treated traditionally. With the development of mobile, robust, ubiquitous, reliable and instantaneous communication being a driving and enabling factor of an information centric economy, the understanding, mitigation and exploitation of interference in networks must be seen as a centrally important task.

Since interference is the main performance-limiting factor in most wireless networks, it is crucial to characterize the interference statistics. The main two determinants of the interference are the network geometry (spatial distribution of concurrently transmitting nodes) and the path loss law (signal attenuation with distance). For certain classes of node distributions, most notably Poisson point processes, and attenuation laws, closed-form results are available, for both the interference itself as well as the signal-to-interference ratios, which determine the network performance. This monograph presents an overview of these results and gives an introduction to the analytical techniques used in their derivation. The node distribution models range from lattices to homogeneous and clustered Poisson models to general motion-invariant ones. The analysis of the more general models requires the use of Palm theory, in particular conditional probability generating functionals, which are briefly introduced in the appendix.

Since the early 1990s, the wireless communications field has witnessed explosive growth. The wide range of applications and existing new technologies nowadays stimulated this enormous growth and encouraged wireless applications. The new wireless networks will support heterogeneous traffic, consisting of voice, video, and data (multimedia). This necessitated looking at new wireless generation technologies and enhance its capabilities. This includes new standards, new levels of Quality of Service (QoS), new sets of protocols and architectures, noise reduction, power control, performance enhancement, link and mobility management, nomadic and wireless networks security, and ad-hoc architectures. Many of these topics are covered in this textbook. The aim of this book is research and development in the area of broadband wireless communications and sensor networks. It is intended for researchers that need to learn more and do research on these topics. But, it is assumed that the reader has some background about wireless communications and networking. In addition to background in each of the chapters, an in-depth analysis is presented to help our readers gain more R&D insights in any of these areas. The book is comprised of 22 chapters, written by a group of well-known experts in their respective fields. Many of them have great industrial experience mixed with proper academic background.

Mimo Communication For Cellular Networks written by Howard Huang and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.
As the theoretical foundations of multiple-antenna techniques evolve and as these multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques become essential for providing high data rates in wireless systems, there is a growing need to understand the performance limits of MIMO in practical networks. To address this need, MIMO Communication for Cellular Networks presents a systematic description of MIMO technology classes and a framework for MIMO system design that takes into account the essential physical-layer features of practical cellular networks. In contrast to works that focus on the theoretical performance of abstract MIMO channels, MIMO Communication for Cellular Networks emphasizes the practical performance of realistic MIMO systems. A unified set of system simulation results highlights relative performance gains of different MIMO techniques and provides insights into how best to use multiple antennas in cellular networks under various conditions. MIMO Communication for Cellular Networks describes single-user, multiuser, network MIMO technologies and system-level aspects of cellular networks, including channel modeling, resource scheduling, interference mitigation, and simulation methodologies. The key concepts are presented with sufficient generality to be applied to a wide range of wireless systems, including those based on cellular standards such as LTE, LTE-Advanced, WiMAX, and WiMAX2. The book is intended for use by graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers interested in the physical-layer design of state-of-the-art wireless systems.
