This document outlines the key principles used in the Community and Provider-driven Social Accountability Intervention (CaPSAI) Project study for implementing social accountability processes in the context of family planning and contraceptive (FP/C) services. The CaPSAI study builds on and contributes to a growing but limited work to better understand how social accountability and participatory processes in the context of family planning and contraceptive programmes and services contribute to the greater achievement of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The document aims to inform practitioners or civil society organizations (CSOs) how the intervention was designed, implemented and monitored to support the integration of social accountability in the provision of contraceptive information and services. It was not intended to be a strict set of activities that were implemented exactly as outlined. Rather, it is a set of steps that were considered during the planning and implementing of the social accountability activities. During the implementation, flexibility and responsiveness were encouraged.

This social and behaviour change interventions for contraception and family planning: implementation guidance for policy-makers and programme managers was developed to support policy-makers and programme managers in advocating for, implementing, managing and understanding the potential impact of social and behaviour change (SBC) interventions to improve contraceptive and family planning (FP) outcomes. The guidance has two sections. Section one makes the case for implementing and scaling SBC interventions to contribute to the achievement of contraceptive and family planning outcomes. This section will help users promote SBC interventions as part of a comprehensive national strategy to improve reproductive health outcomes. It further provides a clear rationale for integrating SBC interventions into national policies and programmes to achieve critical commitments and national policy goals. Section two describes a comprehensive process for designing, implementing, evaluating and scaling SBC interventions. This section will help users to integrate and scale evidence-based SBC interventions as a part of national programmes.

Fifty Years Of Family Planning In The Democratic Republic Of The Congo written by Jane T. Bertrand and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-16 with Social Science categories.
This book chronicles five decades of struggle to introduce family planning into one of the largest, most complex countries in sub-Saharan Africa: the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Interweaving details of major political, social, and economic events into the history of family planning in DRC (formerly Zaïre), the book analyses the achievements and setbacks of five decades of programmatic work. President Mobutu’s 1972 discourse on Naissances Désirables (desirable births) opened the door to organized family planning programs, which gained considerable momentum in the 1980s despite societal norms favoring large families. Two pillages and armed conflict paralyzed development work during the decade of the 1990s, and family planning was one of multiple public health programs that struggled to regain lost ground in the 2000s. With new donor funding and implementing agencies, the 2010s witnessed rapid programmatic expansion and improved strategies. By 2018, family planning was operating as a well-oiled machine. But progress is fragile. The book ends by tracing the deleterious effects of the colonial period to contemporary programming and individual contraceptive use. It asks hard questions about donor financing. And it details the six conditions needed to accelerate family planning progress in the DRC, in pursuit of providing millions of Congolese women and men with the means of controlling their own fertility. The book will be of interest to development and public health researchers and practitioners, as well as to historians of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

This document is one of two evidence-based cornerstones of the World Health Organization's (WHO) new initiative to develop and implement evidence-based guidelines for family planning. The first cornerstone, the Medical eligibility criteria for contraceptive use (third edition) published in 2004, provides guidance for who can use contraceptive methods safely. This document, the Selected practice recommendations for contraceptive use (second edition), provides guidance for how to use contraceptive methods safely and effectively once they are deemed to be medically appropriate. The recommendations contained in this document are the product of a process that culminated in an expert Working Group meeting held at the World Health Organization, Geneva, 13-16 April 2004.
