A House of Prayer begins with a personal story: a moment of a deep sense of isolation and spiritual distress that gives way to a deep sense of abiding connectedness and community . That movement from isolation to serenity by means of praying together, spiritually or physically, is the emphasis of this book. Steagald believes that praying together allows the church to become “one,” as Jesus intended, and the “Body” St. Paul described. The author incorporates memoir, travelogue, reflection on scripture, church history, and psychology as he builds a compelling case for congregations to put more focus on praying as a community.

This book explores the pastor-intercessor relationship in making our city a house of prayer by suggesting ways to rethink how we can interact with cross-denominational leadership, opening the way for unity to flourish. Additionally, we provide guidelines for appropriate altar ministry and corporate prayer settings, prayers for youth and children, and tools for writing your own prayers addressing the mission and vision statement of your own, or other, ministries. We also address the business aspect of starting a ministry and walk the reader through the process of taking a small prayer group from the home into the community and making your city a house of prayer. “Any book with a title like Make Your City a House of Prayer begs to be read! We in the USA are such an independent, individualistic bunch and often suffer from not praying and working together to advance His Kingdom in our cities and nation. Such heart unity, my colleagues and I have observed in many national prayer initiatives, is what facilitates the breakthroughs and transformations of the Lord even in impossible, discouraging, oppressive situations. We do need the kind of paradigm that Lynn Ferder shares in her book. She has much experience in personally living out this paradigm and in training many others to do so. Her guidelines for corporate, united prayer and the place of children and youth will also be extremely valuable. I heartily endorse this book and its wonderful theme. May it catch on across our nation and in other nations as well!” —John Robb, chairman, International Prayer Connect

It is a workbook, resource, and guide intended for Christian communities and individuals who want to plan and design Christian feminist liturgies for women's groups, Bible study groups, and ecumenical women's gatherings as well as one's congregation, community, and personal prayer life. Perhaps an unlikely subject for an ethnographic case study, the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto in Canada is a large predominantly LGBT church with a robust, and at times fraught, history of advocacy. While the church is often riddled with fault lines and contradictions, its queer and faith-based emphasis on shared vulnerability leads it to engage in radical solidarity with asylum-seekers, pointing to the work of affect in radical, coalition politics. A House of Prayer for All People maps the affective dimensions of the politics of citizenship at this church. For nearly three years, David K. Seitz regularly attended services at MCCT. He paid special attention to how community and citizenship are formed in a primarily queer Christian organization, focusing on four contemporary struggles: debates on race and gender in religious leadership, activism around police–minority relations, outreach to LGBT Christians transnationally, and advocacy for asylum seekers. Engaging in debates in cultural geography, queer of color critique, psychoanalysis, and affect theory, A House of Prayer for All People stages innovative, reparative encounters with citizenship and religion. Building on queer theory’s rich history of “subjectless” critique, Seitz calls for an “improper” queer citizenship—one that refuses liberal identity politics or national territory as the ethical horizon for sympathy, solidarity, rights, redistribution, or intimacy. Improper queer citizenship, he suggests, depends not only on “good politics” but also on people’s capacity for empathy, integration, and repair.

Jesus Christ did not sit Sally down at the beginning of her walk with Him and say, "You will teach others how to pray, and help Me to build 'houses of prayer'." Throughout thirty years of ministry as she served in the church... as she worked in youth and family ministry... as she met individually with people who had great needs... as she took part in organized prayer ministries and national prayer outreaches... as she eventually helped to establish healing ministry training sites... it became apparent to her that there were people that knew how to pray effectively and who saw the Lord doing amazing things. From observation and experience it became apparent that Jesus Christ likes ***active, ***effective, ***heart-engaged, ***holy, ***sincere, and ***united prayer before His throne of grace for others and for the world! This in no way belittles 'passionate individual prayer' or 'Jesus' working His own desired miracles', but 'united prayer ministry' enlarges the foundational work of 'reaching the world for Christ' and provides places where 'healing those most wounded' are available in our day of human history. The time has come to unite those who intercede... ***for others...***for the Church... ***for communities... and ***for the world, so that the 'bride of Jesus Christ' will bring in the 'great harvest of souls' in this hour of history. We have much work to do - in His Name! Enjoy the journey!

Shifting Nations Through Houses of Prayer emphasizes that the main thing is not houses of prayer, or shifting cities or nations. It's not even worship or prayer. The main thing is the Lord Himself. It's only His Presence that can change a city or nation in lasting ways. This book seeks to help prepare a dwelling place for Him in your city and nation - and in our hearts. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING: "There is simply no book like this one, written by Rick and Patricia Ridings, on how to shake a nation through 24-hours-a-day prayer." Dr. Cindy Jacobs, Generals International, USA "This is a powerful book for every believer to read, especially those wanting to begin a ministry. I highly recommend reading this book." Heidi G Baker, PhD, Iris Global, Mozambique "This book is a much-needed equipping tool for today's global prayer movement." James W Goll, God Encounters Ministries, USA "I encourage you to read and meditate on this book which I believe will minister deeply across cultures and generations--it is life changing!" Mike Bickle, International House of Prayer, Kansas City

A House Of Prayer For All Peoples written by Sheryl A. Kujawa-Holbrook and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-12-31 with Religion categories.

Contrary to the oft-repeated truism, there are churches in America where Sunday is not the "most segregated day of the week," as Sheryl Kujawa-Holbrook convincingly demonstrates in her compelling exploration of congregations tackling racial justice issues. Yet the truism continues to haunt many congregations, and Kujawa-Holbrook reveals, through story and thoughtful analysis, what it means to create and live out multiracial community. Focusing on six congregations from different denominations, geographical regions, and settings, the author shows us the joys and struggles in their intentional pursuits of a more diverse and just community. The stories in A House of Prayer for All Peoples will inspire leaders to explore their congregation's history, study their community's demographics, and, most of all, search their souls for ways they can develop and celebrate the diversity in their midst. The book is capped by an extensive annotated resource list for readers who want to explore the topic further.
