The use of biocontrol agents and beneficial organisms for management of plant and pest diseases appears as an environment-friendly and economic procedure. However, this option is not always available, depending on the lack of knowledge on the mechanisms of natural regulation, locally effective. In this view, this eBook considers studies and experimental works illustrating a range of problems and solutions based on microbial resources, suitable for management of biotic stress factors. These examples show how detailed data and knowledge on the organisms involved are of paramount importance to achieve a sustainable and durable management capability.

The diagnosis and identification of plant pathogens provides the basis of plant pathology and phytomedicine. The Executive Committee of the EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR PLANT PATHOLOGY (EFPP) had no problem to identify this actual th topic as topic for the 4th Symposium, which was held from September 8 to the 12th at the University of Bonn. It was suggested to have introductory papers and papers on actual research on recently identified topics. The development of diagnosis and pathogen identification is very important to keep plants healthy and to provide a successful and efficient disease control. On the other hand the most important task of the EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR PLANT PATHOLOGY is to improve the international communication, especially in the European hemisphere. Another important duty is to provide the contact between all associated societies - of specific importance seems to be the contact to societies and colleagues from eastern European countries. Times have changed and gratefully we are obliged to hold the contact to our colleagues from the east. During the last meeting we could hold this contact to a certain extent and this should be a premise for the future. th During 1998 the EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR PLANT PATHOLOGY will join the 7 International Congress of Plant Pathology held at Edinburgh from August 9-14, 1998. th The 5 Symposium of the EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR PLANT PATHOLOGY will be arranged by our Italian colleagues.

Multilateral Interactions In The Rhizosphere written by Soumitra Paul Chowdhury and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-05 with Science categories.
The rhizosphere is an ecological hotspot. Plant roots, bacteria, archaea, fungi, nematodes, and other macroscopic organisms interact here with each other. Plants represent the main influencing force as they produce a mixture of chemical molecules and extrude them in the form of root exudates. Those exudates determine not only the nutrient availability of the plant but also influence the outcome of the interactions in the vicinity of the roots. In response to the plant-derived signals, a subset of the bulk soil microbes can proliferate in the proximity of the root and some of them can eventually overcome the plant defense system to colonize the plants. The root-associated microbiota is assumed to be crucial for plant health, and belowground plant-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions can result in altered growth and nutritional quality of the aboveground plant parts. Such interactions affect community composition and productivity in natural ecosystems or crop yield in agricultural fields. Root associations with plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) producing phytohormones that alter root architecture, or produce antibiotics to suppress antagonistic pathogens, affecting nutrient availability and competition between plants are just a few among many examples of such belowground interactions in the rhizosphere. Moreover, the role of rhizosphere microorganisms in stimulating the plant immune system leading to Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR) has also been a focus of an active investigation. However, the molecular mechanisms are still largely unknown. On one hand, it has been proposed that plants actively recruit beneficial microorganisms under certain pathological conditions or influence the soil microbial communities and create a so-called “soil memory”, which is conveyed to future plant generations. On the other, the presence and interactions between microorganisms in the soil have a substantial impact on plant health.

Bio Based Solutions For Sustainable Development Of Agriculture Volume Ii written by Eduardo V. Soares and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-11-26 with Science categories.
The agricultural industry is primarily driven by the fast growth of the population and the subsequent need to supply sufficient food globally. It is estimated that the global population will expand from 8 billion to about 9 billion in 2050 and crop production needs to double in order to supply enough food for all people by 2050. Moreover, the climate change and the intensification of areas of infertile and unproductive soil create new and additional difficulties. It is urgent and of utter importance to find alternative practices to the traditional ones (based on the indiscriminate use of various synthetic chemicals, e.g. fertilizers and pesticides), which are mainly used nowadays, to overcome current and future agricultural challenges in a natural, more efficient and sustainable way. Recent regulations (EU 1009/2019 and Farm Bill in EU and USA, respectively) promote the adoption of biostimulants in agriculture and open the market for new and innovative solutions. This regulation is a major step forward that should encourage the scientific community, in strict interaction with the industry, in the continuous development of new bio-based solutions for modern agriculture.
