Companions In Conflict written by Penny Johnson and has been published by Melville House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-19 with Political Science categories.

An award-winning author explores the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a surprising lens: the animals trying to survive in occupied hotspots In August of 2016, Israeli police officers arrested a Palestinian donkey in the Jordan Valley. The charge? Not having the correct paperwork. It's an image as sad (and strangely common) as it is symbolic: No creature great or small is free from the absurdities of the Occupied Territories. Companions in Conflict is a surprising investigation into the deeply intertwined lives of the region's human and animal populations: From camel beauty contests, to a herd of "illegal" Palestinian cows hunted down by Israeli soldiers; from a hyena in a wolf pack that becomes a symbol of Middle East peace, to the tragic story of the now-taxidermied inhabitants of the West Bank's only zoo--who were frightened to death by Israeli explosive devices. Drawing on three decades of living in the region, Penny Johnson's insightful writing reveals what these and many other animals' fates tell us about the current state of Israel and Palestine. What's more, looking forward, she introduces a new generation of environmental activists to us, who represent the region's best hope for conservation, collaboration, and justice for all creatures.

"This companion explores the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from its inception to the present day, demonstrating the depth and breadth of the many facets of the conflict, from the historical, political and diplomatic to the social, economic and pedagogical aspects. The contributions also engage with notions of objectivity and bias and the difficulties this causes when studying the conflict, in order to reflect the diversity of views and often contentious discussion surrounding this conflict. The volume is organised around six parts, reflecting the core aspects of the conflict: historical and scholarly context of the competing narratives contemporary evolution of the conflict and its key diplomatic junctures key issues of the conflict its local dimensions international environment of the conflict the 'other images' of the conflict, as reflected in public opinion, popular culture, the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, and academia and pedagogy. Providing a comprehensive approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this companion is designed for academics, researchers, and students interested in the key issues and contemporary themes of the conflict"--

It is extremely regrettable that some people calling themselves Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah are, in some of their research, trying to degrade the Companions and, by mentioning their disputes and conflicts, they want to reduce their importance. Indeed they are trying continuously and actively to portray the efforts of the Companions as not solely for the sake of Islam but they claim that their efforts were based on personal benefit or liking and they were fighting like people desirous of the throne and kingship (may Allah protect us from such beliefs!)In contrast to this, all of Ahlus Sunnah are in agreement on the fact that the decision on the internal matters and disputes between the Companions is not a matter of history but a matter of creed, and despite these conflicts they are honourable, truthful and a people who desired guidance for the community. This is the position of all the pious predecessors. The scholars who authored books on creed gave in them a great emphasis on this and we will have the pleasure to present their detailed statements to the readers of this book.Excerpt from the Author's Introduction
