Employment Policy And The Regulation Of Part Time Work In The European Union written by Silvana Sciarra and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-07-01 with Law categories.

This book originates from the research project 'New discourses in labour law' held at the European University Institute. A detailed analysis of part-time work regulation is presented for seven European countries, in order to ascertain how internal domestic choices of the legislatures have merged into the 'Open method of co-ordination'. The impact of European employment policies is considered in parallel with the implementation of the Directive on part-time work, thus providing a complete overview of both soft and hard law mechanisms available to national policy-makers. In this 2004 work, the interaction between law and policy emerges as a dynamic and constantly changing process of exchange between national and supranational actors, through the use of concrete examples of lawmaking. Labour law is put forward as being central in the current evolution of European law, and this centrality is presented as a confirmation of innovation and continuity in regulatory techniques.

Collective Dismissal In The European Union A Comparative Analysis written by Roberto Cosio and has been published by Kluwer Law International B.V. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-24 with Law categories.

When business imperatives require large enterprises to reorganize, involving the reduction in staff legally characterized as collective dismissal, EU directives and laws across Europe mandate specific procedures to support workers who have been made redundant and impose sanctions where regulatory or judicial scrutiny uncovers violations. It is thus essential that a clearly defined framework of the laws and jurisprudence in force in each Member State be provided for businesses and their counsel to ensure compliance and avoid sanctions. This eminently practical book, the first and only book of its kind, provides exactly such an analysis. The book is structured on a country-by-country basis, with each chapter written by an expert in the country covered and responding concisely to such questions as the following: • How is ‘collective dismissal’ calculated? • Which issues regarding collective layoffs’ procedures trigger legal intervention? • What happens when enterprises provide incomplete or delayed information to labour unions or public officials? • When can a worker be reinstated or claim compensation? Each chapter clarifies the extent to which directives have been implemented in the Member States and whether the law in force provides workers with some more favourable treatments than EU actually requires. Jurisprudence and its practical application are analysed from the perspective of the ‘law in action’ rather than that of the ‘law in the books’. A concluding chapter examines global standards and trends in this area of law. There is no other publication fully devoted to the subject of collective dismissal, extensively elaborated and supported with case law. As a source of reliable information as manifested in the actions of judges, lawyers, solicitors, firms, and labour unions, this book has no peers. It will be welcomed and put to use by lawyers and solicitors specializing in labour law, in-house counsel and human resources professionals at multinational companies, regulatory authorities, and labour unions, as well as by universities and centres of research in the field of European law and labour law. The editors - Roberto Cosio, Filippo Curcuruto, Vincenzo Di Cerbo and Giovanni Mammone - all have extensive experience in judicial and administrative practice related to EU labour law, particularly in Italy. All are well-known authors in this field.

Time Autonomy And Work In France Germany And China written by Jens Thoemmes and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-26 with Social Science categories.

Drawing on case studies from France, Germany, and China, this book argues that the dynamic interactions between time and autonomy have fundamentally reshaped the evolution of work. Jens Thoemmes details how time autonomy transitioned from early efforts to reduce working hours to today’s complex debates about managing work time. Initially focused on reclaiming time from employers during the nineteenth century, time autonomy has broadened to encompass how work integrates into overall social time. Beginning in the late 1960s, new tools like flexitime, time-savings accounts, and telecommuting began aligning employee aspirations with production demands, marking a shift towards more flexible work arrangements. Placing work environments from France, Germany, and China in comparative perspective, this book explores the way time autonomy varies in different workplaces and socioeconomic contexts as well as the conditions, opportunities, and risks involved.

The Politics Of Work Family Policy Reforms In Germany And Italy written by Agnes Blome and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-25 with Political Science categories.

One of the fundamental challenges facing modern welfare states is the question of work-family reconciliation. An increasing share of mothers work, but many European welfare states do not adequately support the dual-earner model, especially in southern Europe. After 2005, German policy-makers transformed the nature of Germany’s family policy regime through a number of legislative measures, whilst Italy, a country with many similarities, witnessed little change. Using a multi-methods approach, this book addresses the puzzle of why Germany was able to implement far-reaching reforms in this policy area after a long impasse and Italy was not. As such, it delivers a broad, systematic account of these reforms and sheds light on why similar reforms were not also adopted in other similar welfare states at the same time. More generally, it contributes to understanding the determinants of welfare policy change in modern European welfare states. This text will be of key interest to scholars, students and professionals working on topics linked to European politics, welfare and work-family policies, comparative politics, social policy, and more broadly to political science and gender studies.
