COMPAS strengthens communities and individuals in Minnesota by engaging them through the arts. Since its inception in 1974, COMPAS has become one of the most active community arts organizations in the nation. COMPAS works with well over 40,000 K-12 students each year and more than 70,000 total participants of all ages. Even before COMPAS was a full-fledged organization, it was sending writers into schools. Work began during the 1967-68 school year as The Art of Poetry. In time, the program became known as Writers & Artists in the Schools (WAIT S). Today the program is known as Creative Classroom. Programs occur in over 100 schools each year, providing services in a wide range of literary, visual, musical, performing and cultural arts. The work included in this special 40th anthology edition The World in Our Palms represents the inspired collaboration between seventeen COMPAS Teaching Writers, hundreds of classroom teachers and thousands of students across Minnesota. Finalist in the 2020 Minnesota Author Project: Communities Create contest.

Compass Of Society written by Henry C. Clark and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

Compass of Society rethinks the French route to a conception of "commercial society" in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Henry C. Clark finds that the development of market liberalism, far from being a narrow and abstract ideological episode, was part of a broad-gauged attempt to address a number of perceived problems generic to Europe and particular to France during this period. In the end, he offers a neo-Tocquevillian account of a topic which Tocqueville himself notoriously underemphasized, namely the emergence of elements of a modern economy in eighteenth century France and the place this development had in explaining the failure of the Old Regime and the onset of the Revolution. Compass of Society will aid in understanding the conflicted French engagement with liberalism even up to the twenty-first century.

Art As Politics written by Adam Krause and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Art categories.

The arts originated in the day-to-day activities of human communities. But through the confluence of the culture industry and status driven high art, the products of artistic activities have become mere commodities and specimens of culture rather than integral elements in the fabric of our everyday life. Art has become disconnected from life. What are the ways in which we can reverse this process? How can we make the arts a powerful force in healthy and vibrant communities? Taking his cues from artists, thinkers, and movements as disparate as John Cage, Joseph Beuys, John Dewey, Social Ecology, and DIY punk rock, Adam Krause offers a bold prescription for the future of art and community.

A Handbook For Rural Arts Collaborations written by Mary Altman and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Art categories.

A strong rural arts project should be collaborative. Collaborative projects accommodate diverse needs and agendas, develop non-school project advocates, are sustained by and rely on several sources, and strengthen communities. Because local artists are accessible, have a special commitment to improving education in their communities, and understand community traditions, they should be involved in collaborative art endeavors. This handbook presents models and suggestions for creating collaborative local art education programs. The book's nine chapters each suggest a stage in the creative process. Guide Sheets throughout, summarize useful information. Chapter 1 lays out the organization of the book and provides a brief word glossary. Chapter 2 gives practical suggestions, with examples, about gathering ideas and people together. Chapter 3 indicates a number of ways to gather personal and institutional support and build a project network. Chapter 4 offers suggestions for an effective and inclusive process for planning and management. Chapter 5 explains that outcomes define what will happen as a result of the project. Some outcomes are clearly measurable, others will be harder to assess. Both types are important. Chapter 6 discusses budgeting and financing. Chapter 7 describes nine management procedures which can ensure a "Positive Experience." Chapter 8 deals with the ongoing processes of project management. Chapter 9 focuses on approaches to sharing the success of the project with students, parents, project planners, community members, and the general public. Each chapter concludes with brief recommendations for reading the chapter topic in greater detail. (MM)
