Personal robots are about as advanced today as personal computers were on the eve of the first IBM PC in the early 1980s. They are still the domain of hobbyists who cobble them together from scratch or from kits, join local clubs to swap code and stage contests, and whose labor of love is setting the stage for a technological revolution. This book will deconstruct the 30 regional winning robot designs from the FIRST Robotics Competition in 2006. The FIRST Robotics Competition (held annually and co-founded by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers) is a multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. In 2005 the competition reached close to 25,000 people on close to 1,000 teams in 30 competitions. Teams came from Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Israel, Mexico, the U.K., and almost every U.S. state. The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events that have gained a loyal following because of the high caliber work featured. Each team is paired with a mentor from such companies as Apple, Motorola, or NASA (NASA has sponsored 200 teams in 8 years). This book looks at 30 different robot designs all based on the same chassis, and provides in-depth information on the inspiration and the technology that went into building each of them. Each robot is featured in 6-8 pages providing readers with a solid understanding of how the robot was conceived and built. There are sketches, interim drawings, and process shots for each robot.

Designed for beginners, undergraduate students, and robotics enthusiasts, Practical Robot Design: Game Playing Robots is a comprehensive guide to the theory, design, and construction of game-playing robots. Drawing on years of robot building and teaching experience, the authors demonstrate the key steps of building a robot from beginning to end, with independent examples for extra modules. Each chapter covers basic theory and key topics, including actuators, sensors, robot vision, and control, with examples and case studies from robotic games. Furthermore, the book discusses the application of AI techniques and provides algorithms, and application examples with MATLAB® code. The book includes: Comprehensive coverate on drive motors and drive motor control References to vendor websites as necessary Digital control techniques, with a focus on implementation Techniques for designing and implementing slightly advanced controllers for pole-balancing robots Basic artificial intelligence techniques with examples in MATLAB Discussion of the vision systems, sensor systems, and controlling of robots The result of a summer course for students taking up robotic games as their final-year project, the authors hope that this book will empower readers in terms of the necessary background as well as the understanding of how various engineering fields are amalgamated in robotics.

Smart Learning With Educational Robotics written by Linda Daniela and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-28 with Education categories.

This book will offer ideas on how robots can be used as teachers' assistants to scaffold learning outcomes, where the robot is a learning agent in self-directed learning who can contribute to the development of key competences for today's world through targeted learning - such as engineering thinking, math, physics, computational thinking, etc. starting from pre-school and continuing to a higher education level. Robotization is speeding up at the moment in a variety of dimensions, both through the automation of work, by performing intellectual duties, and by providing support for people in everyday situations. There is increasing political attention, especially in Europe, on educational systems not being able to keep up with such emerging technologies, and efforts to rectify this. This edited volume responds to this attention, and seeks to explore which pedagogical and educational concepts should be included in the learning process so that the use of robots is meaningful from the pointof view of knowledge construction, and so that it is safe from the technological and cybersecurity perspective.

The 2024th edition of Robotics in Education is based on the 15th Conference on Robotics in Education (RiE2024) mirroring experts’ knowledge from all over the world. It includes and summarizes all accepted papers from an interdisciplinary community, which met traditionally at the annual Robotics in Education conference making it a valuable resource for educators, researchers, scientists and engineers. Without losing the focus on educational robotics, the topics have been carefully expanded this year. Therefore, the contributions ranges from theory to practice and from primary schools to university labs while the content covers experience reports from out of school programs to didactic-methodological approaches in teacher training and artificial intelligence to human robotics interaction. Also new robot designs, robot competitions and aspects of maker spaces were considered. The anniversary edition of the conference took place from 10.-12. April 2024 at the University of Koblenz in Germany.

Japanese Robot Culture written by Yuji Sone and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-17 with Social Science categories.

Japanese Robot Culture examines social robots in Japan, those in public, domestic, and artistic contexts. Unlike other studies, this book sees the robot in relation to Japanese popular culture, and argues that the Japanese ‘affinity’ for robots is the outcome of a complex loop of representation and social expectation in the context of Japan’s continuing struggle with modernity. Considering Japanese robot culture from the critical perspectives afforded by theatre and performance studies, this book is concerned with representations of robots and their inclusion in social and cultural contexts, which science and engineering studies do not address. The robot as a performing object generates meaning in staged events and situations that make sense for its Japanese observers and participants. This book examines how specific modes of encounter with robots in carefully constructed mises en scène can trigger reflexive, culturally specific, and often ideologically-inflected responses.
