In his master thesis, Vladimir Herdt presents a novel approach, called complete symbolic simulation, for a more efficient verification of much larger (non-terminating) SystemC programs. The approach combines symbolic simulation with stateful model checking and allows to verify safety properties in (cyclic) finite state spaces, by exhaustive exploration of all possible inputs and process schedulings. The state explosion problem is alleviated by integrating two complementary reduction techniques. Compared to existing approaches, the complete symbolic simulation works more efficiently, and therefore can provide correctness proofs for larger systems, which is one of the most challenging tasks, due to the ever increasing complexity.

This book presents a comprehensive set of techniques that enhance all key aspects of a modern Virtual Prototype (VP)-based design flow. The authors emphasize automated formal verification methods, as well as advanced coverage-guided analysis and testing techniques, tailored for SystemC-based VPs and also the associated Software (SW). Coverage also includes VP modeling techniques that handle functional as well as non-functional aspects and also describes correspondence analyses between the Hardware- and VP-level to utilize information available at different levels of abstraction. All approaches are discussed in detail and are evaluated extensively, using several experiments to demonstrate their effectiveness in enhancing the VP-based design flow. Furthermore, the book puts a particular focus on the modern RISC-V ISA, with several case-studies covering modeling as well as VP and SW verification aspects.

A Framework For Automated Hw Sw Co Verification Of Systemc Designs Using Timed Automata written by Paula Herber and has been published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Computers categories.

In this dissertation, we present a systematic, comprehensive, and formally founded quality assurance process, which allows automated co-verification of digital hardware/software systems that are modeled in SystemC. The main idea is to apply model checking to verify that an abstract design meets a requirements specification and to generate conformance tests to check whether refined designs conform to this abstract design. As formal foundation, we define a formal semantics of SystemC by a transformation into the well-defined semantics of UPPAAL timed automata. The automatically generated timed automata model can be verified using the UPPAAL model checker and it can be used to generate conformance tests. With that, we obtain guarantees about liveness, safety, and timing properties of the abstract design, which serves as a specification, and we can ensure the consistency of each refined design to that. The result is a HW/SW co-verification flow that supports the HW/SW co-development process continuously from abstract design down to the implementation. The complete verification flow is implemented in our Framework for the Verification of SystemC designs using Timed Automata (VeriSTA) and its applicability and performance are shown by experimental results.

Symbolic Model Checking written by Kenneth L. McMillan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Computers categories.

Formal verification means having a mathematical model of asystem, a language for specifying desired properties of the system ina concise, comprehensible and unambiguous way, and a method of proofto verify that the specified properties are satisfied. When the methodof proof is carried out substantially by machine, we speak ofautomatic verification. "Symbolic Model Checking" deals withmethods of automatic verification as applied to computerhardware. The practical motivation for study in this area is the high andincreasing cost of correcting design errors in VLSI technologies. There is a growing demand for design methodologies that can yieldcorrect designs on the first fabrication run. Moreover, design errorsthat are discovered before fabrication can also be quite costly, interms of engineering effort required to correct the error, and theresulting impact on development schedules. Aside from pure costconsiderations, there is also a need on the theoretical side toprovide a sound mathematical basis for the design of computer systems, especially in areas that have received little theoreticalattention.
