The first book on the explicit birational geometry of complex algebraic threefolds arising from the minimal model program, this text is sure to become an essential reference in the field of birational geometry. Threefolds remain the interface between low and high-dimensional settings and a good understanding of them is necessary in this actively evolving area. Intended for advanced graduate students as well as researchers working in birational geometry, the book is as self-contained as possible. Detailed proofs are given throughout and more than 100 examples help to deepen understanding of birational geometry. The first part of the book deals with threefold singularities, divisorial contractions and flips. After a thorough explanation of the Sarkisov program, the second part is devoted to the analysis of outputs, specifically minimal models and Mori fibre spaces. The latter are divided into conical fibrations, del Pezzo fibrations and Fano threefolds according to the relative dimension.

Developed over more than a century, and still an active area of research today, the classification of algebraic surfaces is an intricate and fascinating branch of mathematics. In this book Professor BeauviIle gives a lucid and concise account of the subject, following the strategy of F. Enriques, but expressed simply in the language of modern topology and sheaf theory, so as to be accessible to any budding geometer. This volume is self contained and the exercises succeed both in giving the flavour of the extraordinary wealth of examples in the classical subject, and in equipping the reader with most of the techniques needed for research.

This is a modern introduction to Kaehlerian geometry and Hodge structure. Coverage begins with variables, complex manifolds, holomorphic vector bundles, sheaves and cohomology theory (with the latter being treated in a more theoretical way than is usual in geometry). The book culminates with the Hodge decomposition theorem. In between, the author proves the Kaehler identities, which leads to the hard Lefschetz theorem and the Hodge index theorem. The second part of the book investigates the meaning of these results in several directions.

The second volume of this modern account of Kaehlerian geometry and Hodge theory starts with the topology of families of algebraic varieties. The main results are the generalized Noether-Lefschetz theorems, the generic triviality of the Abel-Jacobi maps, and most importantly, Nori's connectivity theorem, which generalizes the above. The last part deals with the relationships between Hodge theory and algebraic cycles. The text is complemented by exercises offering useful results in complex algebraic geometry. Real Algebraic Varieties written by Frédéric Mangolte and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-21 with Mathematics categories.
This book gives a systematic presentation of real algebraic varieties. Real algebraic varieties are ubiquitous. They are the first objects encountered when learning of coordinates, then equations, but the systematic study of these objects, however elementary they may be, is formidable. This book is intended for two kinds of audiences: it accompanies the reader, familiar with algebra and geometry at the masters level, in learning the basics of this rich theory, as much as it brings to the most advanced reader many fundamental results often missing from the available literature, the “folklore”. In particular, the introduction of topological methods of the theory to non-specialists is one of the original features of the book. The first three chapters introduce the basis and classical methods of real and complex algebraic geometry. The last three chapters each focus on one more specific aspect of real algebraic varieties. A panorama of classical knowledge is presented, as well as major developments of the last twenty years in the topology and geometry of varieties of dimension two and three, without forgetting curves, the central subject of Hilbert's famous sixteenth problem. Various levels of exercises are given, and the solutions of many of them are provided at the end of each chapter.

Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra in Honor of Masayoshi Nagata presents a collection of papers on algebraic geometry and commutative algebra in honor of Masayoshi Nagata for his significant contributions to commutative algebra. Topics covered range from power series rings and rings of invariants of finite linear groups to the convolution algebra of distributions on totally disconnected locally compact groups. The discussion begins with a description of several formulas for enumerating certain types of objects, which may be tabular arrangements of integers called Young tableaux or some types of monomials. The next chapter explains how to establish these enumerative formulas, with emphasis on the role played by transformations of determinantal polynomials and recurrence relations satisfied by them. The book then turns to several applications of the enumerative formulas and universal identity, including including enumerative proofs of the straightening law of Doubilet-Rota-Stein and computations of Hilbert functions of polynomial ideals of certain determinantal loci. Invariant differentials and quaternion extensions are also examined, along with the moduli of Todorov surfaces and the classification problem of embedded lines in characteristic p. This monograph will be a useful resource for practitioners and researchers in algebra and geometry.

One of the great successes of twentieth century mathematics has been the remarkable qualitative understanding of rational and integral points on curves, gleaned in part through the theorems of Mordell, Weil, Siegel, and Faltings. It has become clear that the study of rational and integral points has deep connections to other branches of mathematics: complex algebraic geometry, Galois and étale cohomology, transcendence theory and diophantine approximation, harmonic analysis, automorphic forms, and analytic number theory. This text, which focuses on higher dimensional varieties, provides precisely such an interdisciplinary view of the subject. It is a digest of research and survey papers by leading specialists; the book documents current knowledge in higher-dimensional arithmetic and gives indications for future research. It will be valuable not only to practitioners in the field, but to a wide audience of mathematicians and graduate students with an interest in arithmetic geometry.
