The Sword Is Not Enough written by Jeremy Pressman and has been published by Manchester University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-23 with Political Science categories.

In this lucid and timely new book, Jeremy Pressman demonstrates that the default use of military force on both sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict has prevented its peaceful resolution. Whether called deterrence or war, armed struggle or terrorism, the history of the conflict reveals that violence has been counterproductive. Drawing on historical evidence from the 1950s to the present, The sword is not enough pushes back against the dominant belief that military force leads to triumph while negotiations and concessions lead to defeat and further unwelcome challenges. Violence weakens the security situation, bolsters adversaries, and, especially in the case of Palestine, has sabotaged political aims. Studiously impartial and accessibly written, this book shows us that diplomacy is the only answer.

Many chemotherapeutic agents introduced for use in humans are carcinogenic in laboratory animals (Conklin et al. 1965; Shimkin et al. 1966; Griswold et al. 1968; Harris 1976). However, initially their beneficial effect in disseminated cancer was of such short duration that the inevitable death of the patient from his primary disease precluded any clinical manifestation of the carcinogenic potential. During the last decade, chemotherapy has radically changed the outlook for many patients with cancer. Combinations of drugs, administered as the primary treatment, have resulted in high rates of cure in patients with disseminated malignancies, such as stage IV Hodgkin's disease or childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia. In other disseminated forms of neoplasia, induction of a remission, a substantial palliation and a prolongation of survival have been achieved. In many instances of localised disease, where surgery with or without radiotherapy are the primary form of treatment, anticancer drugs have been used with success as adjuvant therapy for distant microscopic disease. With these spectacular achievements, secondary malignancies, in particular acute non-lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL), has become of major concern. Incidence Acute leukemia is the most frequent form of secondary neoplasia in patients treated for cancer (Penn 1981). In one large series, 5. 9% of all ANLL could be attributed to previous chemotherapy (Kapadia et al. 1980).

Vulvar Disease written by Jacob Bornstein and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-13 with Medical categories.

This book offers comprehensive information on modern approaches to vulvar lesions, taking into account recent management recommendations and employing the consensus terminology of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD). Further, it breaks with past misconceptions and myths, and explains in detail the modern approach. The aim is to help clinicians perform the differential diagnosis of vulvar conditions and implement the new recommended treatments. The core chapters of the book are arranged in accordance with lesion presentation: red lesions, white lesions, patches and plaques, papules and nodules, erosions and ulcers, blisters, etc. For each lesion, the multidisciplinary management is fully explained, including clarifications of the role of gynecologists, dermatologists, physical therapists, pain specialists, sex therapists, and others. Clinical case presentations and numerous illustrations of treatment procedures are included, supplemented byinformative online videos. A separate chapter is devoted to vulvar pain, which is increasingly becoming recognized as a growing problem. Here, again the past approaches are replaced with new paradigms. All of the authors are acknowledged experts in the field and the editor is a past president of the ISSVD. The book will be of value for all vulvar specialists and a wide range of other clinicians.

Research Problems In Function Theory written by Walter K. Hayman and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-07 with Mathematics categories.

In 1967 Walter K. Hayman published ‘Research Problems in Function Theory’, a list of 141 problems in seven areas of function theory. In the decades following, this list was extended to include two additional areas of complex analysis, updates on progress in solving existing problems, and over 520 research problems from mathematicians worldwide. It became known as ‘Hayman's List’. This Fiftieth Anniversary Edition contains the complete ‘Hayman's List’ for the first time in book form, along with 31 new problems by leading international mathematicians. This list has directed complex analysis research for the last half-century, and the new edition will help guide future research in the subject. The book contains up-to-date information on each problem, gathered from the international mathematics community, and where possible suggests directions for further investigation. Aimed at both early career and established researchers, this book provides the key problems and results needed to progress in the most important research questions in complex analysis, and documents the developments of the past 50 years.
