In this volume, compressible turbulent mixing is discussed from the viewpoints of experiment, numerical simulation and theoretical models. The major problem areas include Rayleigh-Taylor and Richtmyer-Meshkov instabilities, and multiphase mixing problems. A variety of initial configurations are discussed, including single and multiple mode perturbations and nonlinear geometries in both two and three dimensions. The effects of experimental and numerical artifacts are also considered.

The intellectual center of this proceedings volume is the subject of conservation laws. Conservation laws are the most basic model of many continuum processes, and for this reason they govern the motion of fluids, solids, and plasma. They are basic to the understanding of more complex modeling issues, such as multiphase flow, chemically reacting flow, and non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Equations of this type also arise in novel and unexpected areas, such as the pattern recognition and image processing problem of edge enhancement and detection. The articles in this volume address the entire range of the study of conservation laws, including the fundamental mathematical theory, familiar and novel applications, and the numerical problem of finding effective computational algorithms for the solution of these problems.

Data Intensive Science written by Terence Critchlow and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-03 with Computers categories.

Data-intensive science has the potential to transform scientific research and quickly translate scientific progress into complete solutions, policies, and economic success. But this collaborative science is still lacking the effective access and exchange of knowledge among scientists, researchers, and policy makers across a range of disciplines. Bringing together leaders from multiple scientific disciplines, Data-Intensive Science shows how a comprehensive integration of various techniques and technological advances can effectively harness the vast amount of data being generated and significantly accelerate scientific progress to address some of the world’s most challenging problems. In the book, a diverse cross-section of application, computer, and data scientists explores the impact of data-intensive science on current research and describes emerging technologies that will enable future scientific breakthroughs. The book identifies best practices used to tackle challenges facing data-intensive science as well as gaps in these approaches. It also focuses on the integration of data-intensive science into standard research practice, explaining how components in the data-intensive science environment need to work together to provide the necessary infrastructure for community-scale scientific collaborations. Organizing the material based on a high-level, data-intensive science workflow, this book provides an understanding of the scientific problems that would benefit from collaborative research, the current capabilities of data-intensive science, and the solutions to enable the next round of scientific advancements.

The Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is a thoroughly updated and reorganized revision of the late Clayton Crowe’s work, and provides a detailed look at the basic concepts and the wide range of applications in this important area of thermal/fluids engineering. Revised by the new editors, Efstathios E. (Stathis) Michaelides and John D. Schwarzkopf, the new Second Edition begins with two chapters covering fundamental concepts and methods that pertain to all the types and applications of multiphase flow. The remaining chapters cover the applications and engineering systems that are relevant to all the types of multiphase flow and heat transfer. The twenty-one chapters and several sections of the book include the basic science as well as the contemporary engineering and technological applications of multiphase flow in a comprehensive way that is easy to follow and be understood. The editors created a common set of nomenclature that is used throughout the book, allowing readers to easily compare fundamental theory with currently developing concepts and applications. With contributed chapters from sixty-two leading experts around the world, the Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is an essential reference for all researchers, academics and engineers working with complex thermal and fluid systems.

This book covers a new approach to analyzing hydrodynamic stability. With the use of standard remedies of functional analysis, theory of boundary value problems and infinitesimal Lie algebras, it is shown in the book that large vortex mushrooms of an ideal incompressible fluid in a vertical strip behind a water hammer proves to be 2D (plane-parallel) nonlinear (for arbitrary disturbances of initial velocities) and long wave stable. It is one of the many examples provided in the book discussing hydrodynamic stability.

Shock Focusing Phenomena written by Nicholas Apazidis and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-18 with Science categories.

One of the main reasons for continuing interest in shock focusing is its ability to concentrate energy in a small volume and produce extreme temperatures and pressures in fluids in a controlled laboratory environment. The phenomenon of shock wave focusing leading to extreme conditions in fluids during micro- and nanosecond time intervals is a spectacular example of mechanics at small length and time scales revealing the major properties of shock dynamics including high-temperature gas phenomena. Production of high-energy concentrations in gases and fluids with star-like temperatures and extreme pressures by means of a stable imploding shock is of great interest not only in its own right but also because of the connection to a multitude of phenomena in nature, technology and medicine.
