This book collects the latest advances and innovations in the field of applied mathematics and computational mechanics, as presented at the 2nd Workshop GIMC SIMAI YOUNG, held in Naples, Italy, on July 10–12, 2024. The workshop was the joint effort of Computational Mechanics Group of the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics -AIMETA (GIMC) and Italian Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SIMAI) and was meant to highlight the works of young researchers in the field. Topics include mathematical models for socio-epidemiological dynamics, efficient numerical methods for evolutionary PDEs, multi-scale approaches and machine learning techniques in material modelling, nonlinear material behaviour, computational methods for shells and spatial structures, assessment, monitoring, and design of masonry structures, particles in numerical simulations, non-Newtonian complex fluids, mathematical modelling in mechanobiology and oncology, mechanics of biological systems and bioinspired materials, computational approaches for complex dynamical systems, optimization methods for classical and data-driven approaches. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration.

Children with learning disabilities can be as sharp as their peers; however, they may find it challenging to write, read, reason out information, spell things correctly, or process information. Due to this, it is critical for students to understand the ways of learning that suit them the best. They may not be aware of the different ways they can learn or may not be able to develop a self-reliant approach to learning and will often seek help. Perspectives of Cognitive, Psychosocial, and Learning Difficulties From Childhood to Adulthood: Practical Counseling Strategies provides a guide for understanding learning difficulties and sheds light on a variety of strategies that can be implemented in the class by teachers. The book also underscores the importance of literacy and numeracy and the relationship between learning difficulties and student wellbeing. Covering key topics such as counseling, coping strategies, and interventions, this premier reference source is ideal for administrators, policymakers, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.

Simulating blood cells for biomedical applications is a challenging goal. Whether you want to investigate blood flow behavior on the cell scale, or use a blood cell model for fast computational prototyping in microfluidics, Computational Blood Cell Mechanics will help you get started, and show you the path forward. The text presents a step-by-step approach to cell model building that can be adopted when developing and validating models for biomedical applications, such as filtering and sorting cells, or examining flow and deformations of individual cells under various conditions. It starts with basic building-blocks that, together, model the red blood cell membrane according to its physical properties, before moving on to discuss several issues that may pose problems along the way, and finally leads to suggestions on how to set up computational experiments. It is a mechanics book written for materials scientists. It provides very simple basic principle written for audience with non mechanics background, so that readers who plan to adopt and integrate the mechanics in their research areas can do it the smart way. The book also has plenty examples on the simple applications of mechanics in various materials science areas: in metallurgy, in coating, in design and in materials science in general. This book is filling the gap between the concept of mechanics used in the 'mechanics world' and the concept of mechanics 'outside mechanics world'. It is perfect for researchers outside mechanics, especially in materials science, who want to incorporate the concept of mechanics in their works. It is originally a script used by a research group in materials science with no mechanics background.
