A new discipline is said to attain maturity when the subject matter takes the shape of a textbook. Several textbooks later, the discipline tends to acquire a firm place in the curriculum for teaching and learning. Computer Aided Engineering Design (CAED), barely three decades old, is interdisciplinary in nature whose boundaries are still expanding. However, it draws its core strength from several acknowledged and diverse areas such as computer graphics, differential geometry, Boolean algebra, computational geometry, topological spaces, numerical analysis, mechanics of solids, engineering design and a few others. CAED also needs to show its strong linkages with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). As is true with any growing discipline, the literature is widespread in research journals, edited books, and conference proceedings. Various textbooks have appeared with different biases, like geometric modeling, computer graphics, and CAD/CAM over the last decade. This book goes into mathematical foundations and the core subjects of CAED without allowing itself to be overshadowed by computer graphics. It is written in a logical and thorough manner for use mainly by senior and graduate level students as well as users and developers of CAD software. The book covers (a) The fundamental concepts of geometric modeling so that a real understanding of designing synthetic surfaces and solid modeling can be achieved. (b) A wide spectrum of CAED topics such as CAD of linkages and machine elements, finite element analysis, optimization. (c) Application of these methods to real world problems.

e-Design: Computer-Aided Engineering Design, Revised First Edition is the first book to integrate a discussion of computer design tools throughout the design process. Through the use of this book, the reader will understand basic design principles and all-digital design paradigms, the CAD/CAE/CAM tools available for various design related tasks, how to put an integrated system together to conduct All-Digital Design (ADD), industrial practices in employing ADD, and tools for product development. Comprehensive coverage of essential elements for understanding and practicing the e-Design paradigm in support of product design, including design method and process, and computer based tools and technology Part I: Product Design Modeling discusses virtual mockup of the product created in the CAD environment, including not only solid modeling and assembly theories, but also the critical design parameterization that converts the product solid model into parametric representation, enabling the search for better design alternatives Part II: Product Performance Evaluation focuses on applying CAE technologies and software tools to support evaluation of product performance, including structural analysis, fatigue and fracture, rigid body kinematics and dynamics, and failure probability prediction and reliability analysis Part III: Product Manufacturing and Cost Estimating introduces CAM technology to support manufacturing simulations and process planning, sheet forming simulation, RP technology and computer numerical control (CNC) machining for fast product prototyping, as well as manufacturing cost estimate that can be incorporated into product cost calculations Part IV: Design Theory and Methods discusses modern decision-making theory and the application of the theory to engineering design, introduces the mainstream design optimization methods for both single and multi-objectives problems through both batch and interactive design modes, and provides a brief discussion on sensitivity analysis, which is essential for designs using gradient-based approaches Tutorial lessons and case studies are offered for readers to gain hands-on experiences in practicing e-Design paradigm using two suites of engineering software: Pro/ENGINEER-based, including Pro/MECHANICA Structure, Pro/ENGINEER Mechanism Design, and Pro/MFG; and SolidWorks-based, including SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Motion, and CAMWorks. Integrated Computer Aided Design Of Mechanical Systems written by Shaker A. Meguid and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.

In this book, the author has presented an introduction to the practical application of some of the essential technical topics related to computer-aided engineering (CAE). These topics include interactive computer graphics (ICG), computer-aided design (CAD), computer and computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM). aided analysis (CAA) Unlike the few texts available, the present work attempts to bring all these seemingly specialised topics together and to demonstrate their integration in the design process through practical applications to real engineering problems and case studies. This book is the result of the author's research and teaching activities for several years of postgraduate and undergraduate courses in mechanical design of rotating machinery, computer-aided engineering, of finite elements, solid mechanics, engineering practical applications and properties of materials at Cranfield Institute of dynamics Technology, Oxford Engineering Science and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). It was soon realised that no books on the most powerful and versatile tools available to engineering designers existed. To satisfy this developing need, this book, on the use of computers to aid the design process and to integrate design, analysis and manufacture, was prepared.
