The term e-Learning is a neologism for CSCL systems that came about during the emergence of website e-learning modules. From an e-learning perspective, conventional e-learning systems were then based on instructional packets, which were delivered to students using assignments. Assignments were evaluated by the instructor. In contrast, the new e-learning places increased emphasis on social learning and use of social software such as blogs, wikis, podcasts and virtual worlds such as Second Life. This phenomenon has also been referred to as Long Tail Learning . E-learning by contrast to e-learning systems not based on CSCL, assumes that knowledge (as meaning and understanding) is socially constructed. Learning takes place through conversations about content and grounded interaction about problems and actions. Advocates of social learning claim that one of the best ways to learn something is to teach it to others. However, it should be noted that many early online courses, such as those developed by Murray Turoff and Starr Roxanne Hiltz in the 1970s and 80s at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, courses at the University of Guelph in Canada, the British Open University, and the online distance courses at the University of British Columbia (where Web CT, now incorporated into Blackboard Inc. was first developed), have always made heavy use of online discussion between students. Also, from the start, practitioners such as Harasim in 1995, have put heavy emphasis on the use of learning networks for knowledge construction, long before the term e-learning, let alone CSCL, was even considered. There is also an increased use of virtual classrooms (online presentations delivered live) as an online learning platform and classroom for a diverse set of education providers such as Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and Sachem, MN, School District. In addition to virtual classroom environments, social networks have become an important part of e-learning. Social networks have been used to foster online learning communities around subjects as diverse as test preparation and language education. Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) is a term used to describe using handheld computers or cell phones to assist in language learning. Some feel, however, that schools have not caught up with the social networking trends. Few traditional educators promote social networking unless they are communicating with their own colleagues. DLR Associates consulting group first became interested in e-learning modules at the annual Distance Learning Conference held at the University of Maine. I decided to offer e-learning services, since we were already evolved with computer-assisted education techniques. DLR Associates had been involved with CAE since computers were first used in engineering education. It was our hope a trend could be started towards blended learning services, where computer-based activities were integrated with practical or classroom-based situations. Applied Combustion written by Eugene L. Keating and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-03-09 with Science categories.
The second edition of this practical text offers a broad introduction to the engineering principles of chemical energy conversion. Eugene L. Keating, Ph.D., P.E., a recognized authority within academia, government, and industry, examines combustion science and technology using fundamental principles. Thermochemical engineering data and design formulations of basic performance relationships appear in dual SI and English engineering dimensions and units, helping you save time and avoid conversion errors. New in the Second Edition Streamlined organization that progressively develops fundamental concepts Extended section on fuel cells New section on the nitrogen-oxygen reaction system Additional coverage of environmental aspects of specific combustion characteristics New chapter on thermal destruction Furnishing examples that demonstrate a proper engineering analysis as well as important concepts relevant to the nature of combustion devices, Applied Combustion, Second Edition explores the ideal oxidation-reaction equation, fuel heat release rates, chemical equilibrium, incomplete combustion, chemical kinetics, and detonation, thermal explosion, and basic flame theories. The book treats the features of chemical energy resources and presents a thermochemical overview of current and potential solid, liquid, and gaseous natural and synthetic fuel resources. It also describes the fuel-engine interface characteristics of important external and internal combustion heat engines in terms of fuel compatibility, consumption rates, pollution characteristics, emission controls, and energy conversion efficiencies.

Admiral S Son General S Daughter written by Dan Ryan and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06 with Fiction categories.
Admiral's Son General's Daughter: is a continuation of the story begun in Admirals and Generals. This second book describes in vivid detail what may have occurred in the United States Military under the Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harison, McKinley and Roosevelt Presidential administrations. The narration is by the son of a career naval officer, born in Beaufort, South Carolina. He will also serve in the Army Navy Building and the White House, Washington D.C. The historical events of 1877 through 1913 are carefully followed. The imagination of the author provides rich characters in powerful settings from the harbors of Alaska to the ports of the Balkan countries just prior to World War I. The time old love story between a man and a woman is woven throughout the book when the naval officer, marries the daughter of a general. They have four children, the oldest girl becomes a college professor, the oldest son enters the US Naval Academy, like his father and grandfather. The twins, a boy and a girl graduate from William and Mary and go on to law school in Washington D. C. Scenes are set carefully with attention to accurate research of the low country of South Carolina as well as our Nation's Capital circa 1877- 1913. The People's Standard History of the United States written by Edward S. Ellis and published in 1895 by Western Book Syndicate and copyrighted by the Woolfall Company have provided background materials, maps of the period and needed information on how the federal government was organized and functioned during this period of history.

Structural Analysis of Polymeric Composite Materials studies the mechanics of composite materials and structures and combines classical lamination theory with macromechanic failure principles for prediction and optimization of composite structural performance. This reference addresses topics such as high-strength fibers, commercially-available compounds, and the behavior of anisotropic, orthotropic, and transversely isotropic materials and structures subjected to complex loading. It provides a wide variety of numerical analyses and examples throughout each chapter and details the use of easily-accessible computer programs for solutions to problems presented in the text.

Finite Element Method written by Michael R. Gosz and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The finite element method (FEM) is the dominant tool for numerical analysis in engineering, yet many engineers apply it without fully understanding all the principles. Learning the method can be challenging, but Mike Gosz has condensed the basic mathematics, concepts, and applications into a simple and easy-to-understand reference. Finite Element Method: Applications in Solids, Structures, and Heat Transfer navigates through linear, linear dynamic, and nonlinear finite elements with an emphasis on building confidence and familiarity with the method, not just the procedures. This book demystifies the assumptions made, the boundary conditions chosen, and whether or not proper failure criteria are used. It reviews the basic math underlying FEM, including matrix algebra, the Taylor series expansion and divergence theorem, vectors, tensors, and mechanics of continuous media. The author discusses applications to problems in solid mechanics, the steady-state heat equation, continuum and structural finite elements, linear transient analysis, small-strain plasticity, and geometrically nonlinear problems. He illustrates the material with 10 case studies, which define the problem, consider appropriate solution strategies, and warn against common pitfalls. Additionally, 35 interactive virtual reality modeling language files are available for download from the CRC Web site. For anyone first studying FEM or for those who simply wish to deepen their understanding, Finite Element Method: Applications in Solids, Structures, and Heat Transfer is the perfect resource.
