An Introduction to Network Simulator NS2 is a beginners’ guide for network simulator NS2, an open-source discrete event simulator designed mainly for networking research. NS2 has been widely accepted as a reliable simulation tool for computer communication networks both in academia and industry. This book will present two fundamental NS2 concepts:i) how objects (e.g., nodes, links, queues, etc.) are assembled to create a network and ii) how a packet flows from one object to another. Based on these concepts, this book will demonstrate through examples how new modules can be incorporated into NS2. The book will: -Give an overview on simulation and communication networks. -Provide general information (e.g., installation, key features, etc.) about NS2. -Demonstrate how to set up a simple network simulation scenario using Tcl scripting lanuage. -Explain how C++ and OTcl (Object oriented Tcl) are linked, and constitute NS2. -Show how Ns2 interprets a Tcl Script and executes it. -Suggest post simulation processing approaches and identify their pros and cons. -Present a number of NS2 extension examples. -Discuss how to incorporate MATLAB into NS2.

Network simulation is a driven test system outlined particularly for inquires about in network correspondence systems. Since its beginning in 1989, network simulation has constantly increased gigantic enthusiasm from industry, the scholarly community, and government. Having been under consistent examination and upgrade for a considerable length of time, network simulation now contains modules for various system segments, for example, steering, transport layer convention, and application. To explore arrange execution, scientists can just utilize a simple to-utilize scripting dialect to design a system, and watch comes about produced by network simulation. Without a doubt, network simulation has turned into the most broadly utilized open source arrange test system, and a standout amongst the most generally utilized system test systems. Lamentably, most research needs reproduction modules which are past the extent of the inherent network simulation modules. Consolidating these modules into network simulation requires significant comprehension of network simulation design. As of now, most network simulation tenderfoots depend on online instructional exercises. The greater part of the accessible data principally discloses how to design a system and gather comes about, yet does exclude adequate data for building extra modules in network simulation. By this book it will be productive to the exploration researchers and understudies.

With the rapid development of Web-based learning and new concepts like virtual cla- rooms, virtual laboratories and virtual universities, many issues need to be addressed. On the technical side, there is a need for effective technology for deployment of W- based education. On the learning side, the cyber mode of learning is very different from classroom-based learning. How can instructional developmentcope with this new style of learning? On the management side, the establishment of the cyber university - poses very different requirements for the set-up. Does industry-university partnership provide a solution to addressing the technological and management issues? Why do we need to standardize e-learning and what can we do already? As with many other new developments, more research is needed to establish the concepts and best practice for Web-based learning. ICWL 2004, the 3rd International Conference on Web-Based Learning, was held at the Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) from August 8th to 11th, 2004, as a continued attempt to address many of the above-mentioned issues. Following the great successes of ICWL 2002 (Hong Kong) and ICWL 2003 (Australia), ICWL 2004 aimed at p- senting new progress in the technical, pedagogical, as well as management issues of Web-based learning. The conference featured a comprehensive program, including a tutorial session, a keynote talk, a main track for regular paper presentations, and an - dustrial track. We received 120 papers and accepted only 58 of them in the main track for both oral and poster presentations.
