This book provides a sound grasp of the fundamental concepts, applications, and practice of EMC. Developments in recent years have resulted in further increases in electrical component density, wider penetration of wireless technologies, and a significant increase in complexity of electrical and electronic equipment. New materials, which can be customized to meet EMC needs, have been introduced. Considerable progress has been made in developing numerical tools for complete system EMC simulation. EMC is now a central consideration in all industrial sectors. Maintaining the holistic approach of the previous edition of Principles and Techniques of Electromagnetic Compatibility, the Third Edition updates coverage of EMC to reflects recent important developments. What is new in the Third Edition? A comprehensive treatment of new materials (meta- and nano-) and their impact on EMC Numerical modelling of complex systems and complexity reduction methods Impact of wireless technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) on EMC Testing in reverberation chambers, and in the time-domain A comprehensive treatment of the scope and development of stochastic models for EMC EMC issues encountered in automotive, railway, aerospace, and marine applications Impact of EMC and Intentional EMI (IEMI) on infrastructure, and risk assessment In addition to updating material, new references, examples, and appendices were added to offer further support to readers interested in exploring further. As in previous editions, the emphasis is on building a sound theoretical framework, and demonstrating how it can be turned to practical use in challenging applications. The expectation is that this approach will serve EMC engineers through the inevitable future technological shifts and developments.

News Media Influence On Rail Infrastructure Policy written by Nicholas Richardson and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-19 with Social Science categories.

In this book, Richardson's research spans a decade and two cities - Sydney, Australia and Montreal, Canada - focusing on three metro-style rail infrastructure case study projects: one ongoing, one failed and one upgraded after reaching fifty years of age – to build an irrefutable case that the news media is highly influential to policy, and that these influences are complex, messy and changing. News Media Influence on Rail Infrastructure Policy offers scholars and industry practitioners in the arenas of policy analysis, politics and media communications a method for astutely guiding large-scale projects through the complex and changing landscape of 24/7 news media. It is underpinned by empirical research that identifies and endeavors to close a considerable gap in current understanding and practice. This gap represents a failure to recognise and respect mediatization – the many powerful influences impacting a policy arena that has drawn the ire of the news media. The result of this failure is ineffective communication that does little to advance the policy piece and, in the worst instances, leads to policy immobilisation or poor policy decision-making. Drawing significantly on Actor–Network Theory, Richardson identifies the influential actors and alliances at play when policy is subjected to media discourse, and he proposes a framework for tracing and managing them. In doing so, he demonstrates that such a framework is not only vital for the successful negotiation of policy and projects in the media, but also to an (r)evolutionary recasting of public, expert and media actors in the development and decision-making process.

The Railway Journey written by Wolfgang Schivelbusch and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-06 with History categories.

The impact of constant technological change upon our perception of the world is so pervasive as to have become a commonplace of modern society. But this was not always the case; as Wolfgang Schivelbusch points out in this fascinating study, our adaptation to technological change—the development of our modern, industrialized consciousness—was very much a learned behavior. In The Railway Journey, Schivelbusch examines the origins of this industrialized consciousness by exploring the reaction in the nineteenth century to the first dramatic avatar of technological change, the railroad. In a highly original and engaging fashion, Schivelbusch discusses the ways in which our perceptions of distance, time, autonomy, speed, and risk were altered by railway travel. As a history of the surprising ways in which technology and culture interact, this book covers a wide range of topics, including the changing perception of landscapes, the death of conversation while traveling, the problematic nature of the railway compartment, the space of glass architecture, the pathology of the railway journey, industrial fatigue and the history of shock, and the railroad and the city. Belonging to a distinguished European tradition of critical sociology best exemplified by the work of Georg Simmel and Walter Benjamin, The Railway Journey is anchored in rich empirical data and full of striking insights about railway travel, the industrial revolution, and technological change. Now updated with a new preface, The Railway Journey is an invaluable resource for readers interested in nineteenth-century culture and technology and the prehistory of modern media and digitalization.

Domain Engineering written by Iris Reinhartz-Berger and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-13 with Computers categories.

Domain engineering is a set of activities intended to develop, maintain, and manage the creation and evolution of an area of knowledge suitable for processing by a range of software systems. It is of considerable practical significance, as it provides methods and techniques that help reduce time-to-market, development costs, and project risks on one hand, and helps improve system quality and performance on a consistent basis on the other. In this book, the editors present a collection of invited chapters from various fields related to domain engineering. The individual chapters present state-of-the-art research and are organized in three parts. The first part focuses on results that deal with domain engineering in software product lines. The second part describes how domain-specific languages are used to support the construction and deployment of domains. Finally, the third part presents contributions dealing with domain engineering within the field of conceptual modeling. All chapters utilize a similar terminology, which will help readers to understand and relate to the chapters content. The book will be especially rewarding for researchers and students of software engineering methodologies in general and of domain engineering and its related fields in particular, as it contains the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on this topic.
