Este livro apresenta uma pesquisa norteada pelo método Design Science Research, que, apoiado na tradição do próprio Design, objetiva contribuir para a base de conhecimento de fundamentos e metodologias. Teve como objetivo principal investigar, por meio da percepção visual dos consumidores, a Qualidade do Valor Ambiental Percebido em embalagens ecologicamente orientadas, considerando a correlação entre os aspectos visuais estéticos e a capacidade de influência destes para a avaliação das configurações. A seleção dos aspectos visuais estéticos é abordada como responsável por evocar interpretações para a comunicação visual acerca do valor ambiental agregado, sendo nesta perspectiva o designer visto como um decisor. A complexidade inerente aos projetos de embalagens, aliada à demanda por expor o valor ambiental, demostra a necessidade de ferramentas que auxiliem o designer a tomar decisões de cunho estético, e que contribuam para o reconhecimento das embalagens ecologicamente orientadas em ambientes de consumo. Para colaborar com esta problemática, foi desenvolvido, a partir de métodos inerentes à área de Aprendizagem de Máquina e da Estética Empírica, um Modelo denominado QVAP, que objetivou disponibilizar informações passíveis de serem consultadas por profissionais de design, a fim de norteá-los mediante recomendações sobre quais modificações estéticas podem ser realizadas para melhoria da comunicação sobre o valor ambiental agregado.
