This book introduces a computationally feasible, cognitively inspired formal model of concept invention, drawing on Fauconnier and Turner's theory of conceptual blending, a fundamental cognitive operation. The chapters present the mathematical and computational foundations of concept invention, discuss cognitive and social aspects, and further describe concrete implementations and applications in the fields of musical and mathematical creativity. Featuring contributions from leading researchers in formal systems, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, computational creativity, mathematical reasoning and cognitive musicology, the book will appeal to readers interested in how conceptual blending can be precisely characterized and implemented for the development of creative computational systems.

Image Schemas And Concept Invention written by Maria M. Hedblom and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-13 with Computers categories.

In this book the author's theoretical framework builds on linguistic and psychological research, arguing that similar image-schematic notions should be grouped together into interconnected family hierarchies, with complexity increasing with regard to the addition of spatial and conceptual primitives. She introduces an image schema logic as a language to model image schemas, and she shows how the semantic content of image schemas can be used to improve computational concept invention. The book will be of value to researchers in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, psychology, and creativity.

Creativity And Artificial Intelligence written by Francisco Câmara Pereira and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-08-27 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Creativity and Artificial Intelligence: A Conceptual Blending Approach takes readers into a computationally plausible model of creativity. Inspired by a thorough analysis of work on creativity from the areas of philosophy, psychology, cognitive science, cognitive linguistics and artificial intelligence, the author deals with the various processes, principles and representations that lie underneath the act of creativity. Focusing on Arthur Koestler's Bisociations, which eventually lead to Turner and Fauconnier's conceptual blending framework, the book proposes a theoretical model that considers blends and their emergent structure as a fundamental cognitive mechanism. The author thus discusses the computational implementation of several aspects of conceptual blending theory, namely composition, completion, elaboration, frames and optimality constraints. Informal descriptions and examples are supplied to provide non-computer scientists as well as non-cognitive linguists with clear insights into these ideas. Several experiments are made, and their results are discussed, with particular emphasis on the validation of the creativity and conceptual blending aspects. Written by a researcher with a background in artificial intelligence, the book is the result of several years of exploration and discussion from different theoretical perspectives. As a result, the book echoes some of the criticism made on conceptual blending and creativity in artificial intelligence, and thus proposes improvements in both areas, with the aim of being a constructive contribution to these very intriguing, yet appealing, research orientations.

Discover the tricks of the trade that helps ordinary people learn how to look at their world through the eyes of an inventor. You don’t have to be a mechanical genius to be an inventor. Chances are, you’re already at the all-important starting ground every inventor begins at--wishing you could find a clever solution to an everyday challenge. The far-too-complicated baby swing. Slick-soled running shoes. Computer cords constantly tangled up...there can’t be a solution unless there’s a problem. Author and inventor Patricia Nolan-Brown has turned many common annoyances into ingenious and money-making products, and she believes you can do the same. In Idea to Invention, you will learn the six simple steps it takes to go from idea to invention, and discover: Creativity habits that spark invention The power of tape-and-paper prototypes to refine their vision How to navigate the ins and outs of licensing and patenting their product The pros and cons of finding a licensed manufacturer vs. running a home-based assembly line How to promote their invention Product enhancements that add years to shelf life From the everyday challenge and your initial concept to resolve it, all the way to the explosion of your thriving business, Idea to Invention simplifies the invention process and gives creative thinkers the competitive edge they need to achieve the success their amazing ideas deserve.

Technology S Storytellers written by John M. Staudenmaier and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-09-06 with Science categories.

Technology's Storytellers documents the emergence of the history of technology as a coherent intellectual discipline. Based on an analysis of nearly 300 articles published in Technology and Culture, it proposes a mode of historical research as a communal rather than an individualistic endeavor—looking for patterns of consensus in the authors' choice of time periods, geographical locations, and types of technology to study. It discusses the recurrent themes of the relationship between science and technology and the cultural ambience of technology, and examines the extent to which historians are moving away from a once pervasive ideology of autonomous technological progress. Co-published with the Society for the History of Technology.

This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Logic Programming and Nonmonotonic Reasoning, LPNMR 2015, held in September 2015 in Lexington, KY, USA. The 290long and 11 short papers presented together with 3 invited talks, the paper reporting on the Answer Set Programming competition, and four papers presented by LPNMR student attendees at the doctoral consortium were carefully reviewed and selected from 60 submissions. LPNMR is a forum for exchanging ideas on declarative logic programming, nonmonotonic reasoning, and knowledge representation. The aim of the LPNMR conferences is to facilitate interactions between researchers interested in the design and implementation of logic-based programming languages and database systems, and researchers who work in the areas of knowledge representation and nonmonotonic reasoning.

Book Of Addresses written by Peggy Kamuf and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Philosophy categories.

This book consists of a series of essays that all turn around questions of the address of speech or writing. They argue and demonstrate that meaning is not just a matter of the active intention of a subject (for example, speaker, writer, or other signatory of a meaningful act) but also of its reception at another's address. The book's main concern is therefore with a theory of meaning and of action that is not centered on the intentional, self-conscious subject. The fifteen chapters explore this problematic within three broad areas: love, jealousy, and sexual difference; fiction or literature; and political or public discourse. The book engages principally with contemporary French thought and includes important new readings of work by Jacques Derrida, Hélène Cixous, Maurice Blanchot, and Jean-Luc Nancy.

The brutally honest truth about patents, prototypes, and so-called “invention help” firms—plus how to avoid wasting tens of thousands on empty promises. Practical, step-by-step guidance on everything from protecting your idea (without drowning in legal fees) to hooking heavyweight retail partners that put money in your bank account. Irreplaceable field intelligence on testing, pricing, distribution, marketing channels, manufacturing pitfalls, and more—the hidden steps most inventors skip whic makes it much harder for success. The ultimate “reality-check” process so you can quickly figure out if your concept is the next million-dollar smash or just a pipe dream. Bottom line, if you’ve got an idea—big or small, complex or simple—that could become the next phenomenon… and you want to see real money (not just get an “attaboy” from your friends), you need to use the blueprint laid out in these pages.
