India is the seventh largest country and Asia's second most populous country with an area of 3, 387, 263 km-2. It Possesses diverse climatic regions and habitats. Though India became independent six decades ago, still we are unable to document and manage our wildlife resources. Presently most of the literature on wildlife is avilable in the form of few books and monogaphs which are mainly related to European and African wild life. Good number of workers are involved in the study of wildlife of India, and these persons work for their specific research projects, and it is degree oriented, many time they do not visit field or they rely on secondary data or only depend on their project fellows information. Such studies will not give true picture about the ground reality, specially it is true about studies on Avifauna. Presently there are six Institutes in India which offer M Sc in wild life. Most of these students suffer from non avilability of books and relevant information. Now a days study on wild life has been tagged with eco-toruism concept, which become an attractive tool to invite tourists and hence to earn income. An attempt is made in this book to provide all the important information on wildlife. In addition to those the chapters of II edition, the III edition has been revised and four new chapters are incorporated. This book is a rare source of wide information on wild resources. This title embodies 25 chapters on various aspects of wild life of India. Chapter first, begins with the knowledge on Wildlife Conservation and management. It was followed by Endangered flora and fauna; Extinction of organisms; Special conservation schemas for critically endangered species; Management of range lands; Wildlife reserves; Zoos and parks; Wetland birds; Asian water fowls census; Ramsar wetlands; Birds migration; Biodiversity; Theories of biodiversity; Zoo geography; Wildlife diseases; Remote sensing and wildlife; Wildlife crimes; protection act 1972; Protection schedules; Wildlife crimes; Indian NGO's; National and State plant, animal and flower; and this book closes by an important topic on Environmental impect assessments and waste auditing. This edition is prepared to cater the needs of all the graduates and post graduates courses of Indian universities, Forest officials, NGO's and wildlife lovers as well. if this book is able to create interest and awareness to some extent among common public about wild resources, then I fell my efforts have started gaining dividends.

To understand modern principles of sustainable management and the conservation of wildlife species requires intimate knowledge about demography, animal behavior, and ecosystem dynamics. With emphasis on practical application and quantitative skill development, this book weaves together these disparate elements in a single coherent textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students. It reviews analytical techniques, explaining the mathematical and statistical principles behind them, and shows how these can be used to formulate realistic objectives within an ecological framework. This third edition is comprehensive and up-to-date, and includes: Brand new chapters that disseminate rapidly developing topics in the field: habitat use and selection; habitat fragmentation, movement, and corridors; population viability. analysis, the consequences of climate change; and evolutionary responses to disturbance A thorough updating of all chapters to present important areas of wildlife research and management with recent developments and examples. A new online study aid – a wide variety of downloadable computer programs in the freeware packages R and Mathcad, available through a companion website. Worked examples enable readers to practice calculations explained in the text and to develop a solid understanding of key statistical procedures and population models commonly used in wildlife ecology and management. The first half of the book provides a solid background in key ecological concepts. The second half uses these concepts to develop a deeper understanding of the principles underlying wildlife management and conservation. Global examples of real-life management situations provide a broad perspective on the international problems of conservation, and detailed case histories demonstrate concepts and quantitative analyses. This third edition is also valuable to professional wildlife managers, park rangers, biological resource managers, and those working in ecotourism.

This book provides a thorough, up-to-date examination of conservation biology and the many supporting disciplines that comprise conservation science. In this, the Third Edition of the highly successful Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts, Applications, the authors address their interdisciplinary topic as it must now be practiced and perceived in the modern world. Beginning with a concise review of the history of conservation, the authors go on to explore the interplay of conservation with genetics, demography, habitat and landscape, aquatic environments, and ecosystem management, and the relationship of all these disciplines to ethics, economics, law, and policy. An entirely new chapter, The Anthropocene: Conservation in a Human-Dominated Nature, breaks new ground in its exploration of how conservation can be practiced in anthropogenic biomes, novel ecosystems, and urban habitats. The Third Edition includes the popular Points of Engagement discussion questions used in earlier editions, and adds a new feature: Information Boxes, which briefly recap specific case histories described in the text. A concluding chapter offers insight into how to become a conservation professional, in both traditional and non-traditional roles. The authors, Fred Van Dyke and Rachel Lamb, draw on their expertise as field biologists, wildlife managers, consultants to government and industry, and scholars of environmental law, policy, and advocacy, as well as their many years of effective teaching experience. Informed by practical knowledge and acquired skills, the authors have created a work of exceptional clarity and readability which encompasses both systemic foundations as well as contemporary developments in the field. Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts, Applications will be of invaluable benefit to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to working conservation scientists and managers. This is an amazing resource for students, faculty, and practitioners both new and experienced to the field. Diane Debinski, PhD Unexcelled wisdom for living at home on Wonderland Earth, the planet with promise, destined for abundant life. Holmes Rolston, PhD Van Dyke and Lamb have maintained the original text’s emphasis on connecting classical ecological and environmental work with updated modern applications and lucid examples. But more importantly, the third edition contains much new material on the human side of conservation, including expanded treatments of policy, economics, and climate change. Tim Van Deelen, PhD Fred Van Dyke and Rachel Lamb break new ground in both the breadth and depth of their review and analysis of this crucially important and rapidly changing field. Any student or other reader wishing to have a comprehensive overview and understanding of the complexities of conservation biology need look no further – this book is your starting point! Simon N. Stuart, PhD Anyone who teaches, talks or writes and works on Conservation Biology, needs this latest edition of Conservation Biology (Foundations, Concepts, Applications, 3rd edition) by Fred Van Dyke and Rachel L. Lamb. This will be useful to both beginners and experts as well. The authors included almost all important issues in relation to conservation biology. This is really an outstanding book.
