This book presents knowledge on sustainability concepts, policies, and technologies adopted in both developed and developing countries. The book covers five themes: (a) advancing sustainability building rating systems, (b) promoting retrofitting buildings and warranting energy-efficient buildings, (c) realizing water efficiency within building structures, (d) application of the circular economy to manage waste, and (e) enhancing the health and well-being of building occupants. The first theme includes case study-based evidence and solutions to different rating systems used in different countries. The second and third themes mainly focus on the achievement of sustainability under the key parameters of energy efficiency and water efficiency through the application of various techniques and technologies, such as green roofs, green walls, and grid-tied solar photovoltaic technology, with a special emphasis on retrofitting techniques, in different case study contexts. The fourth theme primarily addresses the need to clarify misconceptions surrounding the concept of the 'circular economy' within the construction industry. It explores its broader applications in various contexts, aiming to uncover opportunities for knowledge expansion and transfer across different countries. The fifth and final theme of the book addresses various good practices and tools developed to enhance the health and well-being of building occupants, with a primary focus on how such things help achieve sustainable buildings.

An important consideration for energy-efficient buildings is their primary energy requirements over the entire life cycle. How to determine this? What integrative factors influence the performance of a healthy and sustainable building? This, while it may be important for clients and architects to know, is frequently not very transparent. This book has been written to assist with clarifying target criteria and expanding horizons when it comes to ecological buildings. It is meant as a handbook and source of reference for clients, architects, planners and building operators, to provide them with pertinent information about their design, construction and operation: how to do this in the most energy-efficient and economical manner? Also, there is feedback and documentation about prominent buildings like the Hamburg Dockland or the Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg in Stuttgart. They provide excellent architectural examples for detailed construction and design solutions. Further, there are insightful interviews with architects and clients about many important buildings, which help turn this book into an integrated source of reference for sustainable architecture. - A Guideline for Planning, Construction and Operation of sustainable Buildings - A source of reference for clients, architects, planners and building operators - Innovative architectural examples with sustainable concepts and design

Trends In Sustainable Buildings And Infrastructure written by Víctor Yepes and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The recently established Sustainable Development Goals call for a paradigm shift in the way that buildings and infrastructures are conceived. The construction industry is a major source of environmental impacts, given its great material consumption and energy demands. It is also a major contributor to the economic growth of regions, through the provision of useful infrastructure and generation of employment, among other factors. Conventional approaches underlying current building design practices fall short of covering the relevant environmental and social implications derived from inappropriate design, construction, and planning. The development of adequate sustainable design strategies is therefore becoming extremely relevant regarding the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda Goals for Sustainable Development. This book comprises 11 chapters that highlight the actual research trends in the construction sector, aiming to increase the knowledge on sustainable design practices by highlighting the actual practices that explore efficient ways to reduce the environmental consequences related to the construction industry, while promoting social wellbeing and economic development. The chapters collect papers included in the Special Issue “Trends in Sustainable Buildings and Infrastructure” of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
