Concise Encyclopedia Of The Mechanical Properties Of Materials written by J. W. Martin and has been published by Elsevier Science this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-06-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The Concise Encyclopedia of the Mechanical Properties of Materials draws its material from the award-winning Encyclopedia of Materials: Science and Technology, and includes updates and revisions not available in the original set. Mechanical properties describe the response of a material to an applied strain. Elastic behaviour is encountered at small strains, followed by plastic strain which is usually followed by fracture. If the magnitude of the applied strain fluctuates with time, fatigue failure may take place. Again, at relatively high temperatures (with respect to their melting point) materials subjected to a constant stress may exhibit progressive creep deformation over a period of time which may lead to ultimate failure. Articles have been selected which discuss this wide range of properties, both generally and also specifically with reference to metals and alloys, polymeric materials, ceramics and glasses, composite materials, as well as some miscellaneous materials such as wood, paper and textiles. The majority of contributions contain quantitative data, the others are predominantly descriptive in nature where it is more appropriate for the type of material in question. The compilation provides the reader with an up-to-date understanding of the mechanical properties of a wide range of materials.

The Concise Encyclopedia of Composite Materials, first published as a hardbound edition in 1989, has been updated and revised and is now available as a paperback for individual researchers requiring a fundamental reference source for this dynamic field. Since 1989, research involving composite materials has advanced rapidly and this revised edition reflects those changes with the addition of new articles, including recent work on nanocomposites, smart composite materials systems, and metallic multilayers. The 67 articles included in this revised edition are presented in alphabetical order and each provides an introduction to one aspect of composite materials. Every article is extensively cross-referenced and includes a full bibliography. The volume contains over 250 photographs, drawings and tables as well as exhaustive subject and author indexes. The comprehensive breadth of coverage of the field of composite materials makes this volume an invaluable source of reference for materials scientists and mechanical engineers involved in industrial and academic research into the fabrication, properties and applications of composite materials.

Concise Encyclopedia Of Magnetic And Superconducting Materials written by J. Evetts and has been published by Pergamon this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-06-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Magnetic and superconducting materials pervade every avenue of the technological world from microelectronics and mass-data storage to medicine and heavy engineering. This Concise Encyclopedia draws together for the first time in a single volume the remarkable advances seen in recent years in the discovery of new materials and improvements of existing materials, in the elucidation of a new and deeper understanding of their phenomenology and in the expansion and diversification of their application in technology. Magnetic and superconducting materials have much in common; they have both experienced, over the last decade, a revolution that has revitalised and galvanised their respective fields. In each case the impetus has come from the discovery of new materials; this, in turn, has stimulated a re-evaluation of a wide range of basic mechanisms and phenomena. The encyclopedia is based on newly commissioned articles and articles revised from the acclaimed Encyclopedia of Materials and Engineering. Details of all important materials systems and their properties are included and key areas such as thin films are covered. The volume contains 110 articles, alphabetically organised and written by over 120 acknowledged experts within the field of magnetic and superconducting materials. Each article discusses in turn one aspect of the subject and includes, where appropriate, photographs, line drawings and tables to aid the understanding of the topic under discussion. Cross-references guide readers to articles covering subjects of related interest and the bibliography at the end of each article indicates the most important recent literature.
