In recent years, extensions of rewriting techniques that go beyond the traditional untyped algebraic rewriting framework have been investigated and developed. Among these extensions, conditional and typed systems are particularly important, as are higher-order systems, graph rewriting systems, etc. The international CTRS (Conditional and Typed Rewriting Systems) workshops are intended to offer a forum for researchers on such extensions of rewriting techniques. This volume presents the proceedings of the second CTRS workshop, which contributed to discussion and evaluation of new directions of research. (The proceedings of the first CTRS workshop are in Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 308.) Several important directions for extensions of rewriting techniques were stressed, which are reflected in the organization of the chapters in this volume: - Theory of conditional and Horn clause systems, - Infinite terms, non-terminating systems, and termination, - Extension of Knuth-Bendix completion, - Combined systems, combined languages and modularity, - Architecture, compilers and parallel computation, - Basic frameworks for typed and order-sorted systems, - Extension of unification and narrowing techniques.

This volume contains the papers preesented at the Third International Workshop on Conditional Term Rewriting Systems, held in Pont- -Mousson, France, July 8-10, 1992. Topics covered include conditional rewriting and its applications to programming languages, specification languages, automated deduction, constrained rewriting, typed rewriting, higher-order rewriting, and graph rewriting. The volume contains 40 papers, including four invited talks: Algebraic semantics of rewriting terms and types, by K. Meinke; Generic induction proofs, by P. Padawitz; Conditional term rewriting and first-order theorem proving, by D. Plaisted; and Decidability of finiteness properties (abstract), by L. Pacholski. The first CTRS workshop was held at the University of Paris in 1987 and the second at Concordia University, Montreal, in 1990. Their proceddings are published as Lecture Notes in Computer Science Volumes 308 and 516 respectively.

This volume gives a coherent presentation of the outcome of the project PROSPECTRA (PROgram development by SPECification and TRAnsformation) that aims to provide a rigorous methodology for developing correct software and a comprehensive support system. The results are substantial: a theoretically well-founded methodology covering the whole development cycle, a very high-level specification and transformation language family allowing meta-program development and formalization of the development process itself, and a prototype development system supporting structure editing, incremental static-semantic checking, interactive context-sensitivetransformation and verification, development of transformation (meta-) programs, version management, and so on, with an initial libraryof specifications and a sizeable collection of implemented transformations. The intended audience for this documentation is the academic community working in this and related areas and those members of the industrial community interested in the use of formal methods.

This book contains a collection of survey papers in the areas of algorithms, lan guages and complexity, the three areas in which Professor Ronald V. Book has made significant contributions. As a fonner student and a co-author who have been influenced by him directly, we would like to dedicate this book to Professor Ronald V. Book to honor and celebrate his sixtieth birthday. Professor Book initiated his brilliant academic career in 1958, graduating from Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in 1960 and a Master of Arts degree in 1964 both from Wesleyan University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Harvard University in 1969, under the guidance of Professor Sheila A. Greibach. Professor Book's research in discrete mathematics and theoretical com puter science is reflected in more than 150 scientific publications. These works have made a strong impact on the development of several areas of theoretical computer science. A more detailed summary of his scientific research appears in this volume separately.

Handbook Of Graph Grammars And Computing By Graph Transformations Vol 2 Applications Languages And Tools written by Grzegorz Rozenberg and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-10-20 with Computers categories.

Graph grammars originated in the late 60s, motivated by considerations about pattern recognition and compiler construction. Since then, the list of areas which have interacted with the development of graph grammars has grown quite impressively. Besides the aforementioned areas, it includes software specification and development, VLSI layout schemes, database design, modeling of concurrent systems, massively parallel computer architectures, logic programming, computer animation, developmental biology, music composition, visual languages, and many others. The area of graph grammars and graph transformations generalizes formal language theory based on strings and the theory of term rewriting based on trees. As a matter of fact, within the area of graph grammars, graph transformation is considered as a fundamental computation paradigm where computation includes specification, programming, and implementation. Over the last three decades, graph grammars have developed at a steady pace into a theoretically attractive and important-for-applications research field.Volume 2 of the indispensable Handbook of Graph Grammars and Computing by Graph Transformations considers applications to functional languages, visual and object-oriented languages, software engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical process engineering, and images. It also presents implemented specification languages and tools, and structuring and modularization concepts for specification languages. The contributions have been written in a tutorial/survey style by the top experts in the corresponding areas. This volume is accompanied by a CD-Rom containing implementations of specification environments based on graph transformation systems, and tools whose implementation is based on the use of graph transformation systems.
