Essay from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, 9 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Conflict can be regarded as a reality of management and organizational behavior. Most of us will understand what is commonly meant by organizational conflict and be aware of its existence and effects. Yet conflict is another term which can be defined and interpreted in a number of ways. We can see conflict as behavior intended to obstruct the achievement of some other person's goals. Conflict is based on the incompatibility of goals and arises from opposing behaviors. It can be viewed at the individual, group or organizational level. Conflict is not necessarily good or bad but inevitable feature of organization life. Even if organizations have taken great care to try and avoid conflict it will still occur. Conflict will continue to emerge despite attempts by management to suppress it. Conflict, if it appears, means that the organization is alive. The group tries to solve now and then quite difficult tasks by using different ideas. It can significantly improve the company's performance when it is oriented on the task solving. But it can very quickly move from task to the people and their emotions. In this case the influence of the conflict on the organization may be very destructive. And everyone should realize that.

Stalin fabricated the myth that the Germans carried out the Katyń massacre and the West accepted it while always suspecting the reality. In the same way, each country tried to forget the more painful memories of its past and construct its own mythology. The Germans were never taken to task at Nuremberg for bombing because the Anglo-Americans virtually carried out a war of annihilation. The French Gaullist myth was that it was decadent politicians who caused the defeat, and that fighting France freed itself. In a similar vein, the Italian resistance was fostered as a myth and used postwar to cover the fascist period of their history. British and American popular history tends to portray their countries as the main victors often ignoring the massive Russian contribution, and generally concentrates on the barbarity of the Eastern war. Much is forgotten and much enhanced; both incidents and leaders. The Italian military historian of this book writes in depth about the Italian war so often ignored in western history, and tackles the myth of Italian cowardice, while the British author takes a cold, calculated look at Anglo-American leaders such as Montgomery, Mountbatten, Clark, Patton, and questions the myth of the special relationship between Great Britain and the USA, as well as the official and unofficial amnesia relating to self-inflicted gas wounds in Italy.

Throughout the course of my life, I've witnessed many strange and unexplainable activities. Logically, these things should not be possible. But to a person that has seen, heard, and felt what should not be there, it is staggeringly real. At 5 years old, I saw my first apparition in my childhood home and began watching the "shadows" not long after. Throughout my life, experiences have continued with my fear slowly transitioning to more brazen attempts to interact with the other side. Every house that we have lived in has been riddled with interestingly odd, and sometimes frightening paranormal activity. With shadow people, apparitions, and disembodied voices lurking around every corner, I thought it was my burden alone to carry until the birth of my girls. When they both started seeing the same "shadows", my curiosity to understand quickly conflicted with my maternal desire to protect. Everywhere we go, spirits seem to follow. Did I unknowingly sign my family up for paranormal activities as a child? Do spirits that have followed me now follow my girls? Are we attracting new ones? Have I set them up for a lifetime of torment? Welcome to my conflicted reality.

Originally published in 1970 and in contrast to the previous three volumes, which each dealt with a single subject, this volume is a miscellaneous one. Seventeen subjects were selected on the basis of their relevance for the understanding both of psychoanalytic theory and of human behaviour in general. In this volume the reader can follow the development of Freud’s theories regarding important subjects such as Fixation, Regression, Cathexis, Conflicts, Anxiety, Ambivalence, Reality Testing, Transference and Counter- Transference. Some of these subjects were chosen because of the many misconceptions and misunderstandings that surrounded them. As in previous volumes, the development of each concept is described from its conception to Freud’s final formulation and detailed references are given for the guidance of the student, the psychoanalyst, the psychiatrist, the social worker, the psychologist and the general reader.
