Where do you fit? Restoring Relationships within the Generations _______________________________________________________________________ Drs. Scott and Carolyn Buss, authors of numerous books, recording artists, co-founders and directors of the Institute of Music, Worship & the Arts and All Nations House of Prayer; concert artists, teachers, missionaries, speakers. Their passionate love for music has led them to the nations, (where they have ushered people from varying ethnic, generational and denominational backgrounds into the presence of the Lord, as they've played in great concert halls, ministered in numerous churches and schools, entertained thousands in elegant hotel ballrooms, performed in the historical East Wing of the White House and other governmental buildings.) The key point is not what they have accomplished or where they have been, but that they have played their violin and piano no differently for the audiences of a few in the remotest of mission fields or in small local gatherings. The reason being is because they, like Johann Sebastian Bach, minister unto the greatest audience wherever they are, and that is - God Almighty, the honored KING. He is worthy of the deepest of expressions from the heart, combined with excellence, which is ministered from worshiping priests before the Lord for His glory. Whether in song, spoken messages or in the books they write, their message is the same - More Love, More Unity, More Peace .... for the heart cries of broken relationships in marriages and families, split churches, damaged friendships. People hurt and don't know what to do. _______________________________________________________________________ "Reading this book caused me to see that there is a way to walk in truth and life, that people can be real with each other and walk in love. Families are suffering; trust is waned. This book gives clear revelatory answers and lots of encouragement." LY Thomas: artist, teacher, intercessor

WHAT ARE GRANDFRIENDSHIPS? They are comfortable two-way interactions between children and safe, available seniors -- family or non-family -- who live near one another. These connections help re-create the village concept when parents make them happen. These true intergenerational stories describe how youngsters at every age grew stronger, smarter, and more compassionate. You will see how GrandFriendships in families, neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, and other settings can enrich the lives of both children and seniors. This guidebook contains: * Reasons why GrandFriendships are needed in today's stressed-out society. * The story of elementary school kids bonding with the frail elderly. * Powerful feedback from those same kids, 20 years later! * Action Steps for parents to jump-start GrandFriendships. What others say: With compassion, joy and wisdom, Helene Block Fields captures the unique impact that GrandFriendships between young and old have on one another. The time is now...for parents to prioritize time to help connect the generations...after reading this amazing guidebook, how could you not? - GAIL REICHLIN, Executive Director of The Parents Resource Network, and Author of The Pocket Parent This book is inspirational, informative, and highly practical. It especially highlights the natural affinity between youngsters and seniors who have been seasoned by life. It is also must reading for seniors who wish to give back to their communities. Social isolation, loneliness, and suicide are conditions we often associate with the elderly. But in reality, these issues have sharply increased across younger generations. Baby Boomers, Gen X’ers, Millennials, and post-Millennials all report a declining number of friends and an increasing number of health issues associated with loneliness. Even more concerning, it appears that the younger the generation, the greater the feelings of disconnection. Regardless of age, it feels as though we’re living through a period of ongoing disequilibrium because we’re not able to adapt quickly enough to the social and technological changes swirling around us. These powerful changes have not only isolated individuals from their own peers but have contributed to becoming an age-segregated society. And yet we need fulfilling relationships with people our own age and across the generations to lead lives that are rich in meaning and purpose. Even in those rare communities where young and old live near each other, they lack organic settings that encourage intergenerational relationships. In addition, it isn’t technology, but generational diversity that is our best tool for navigating the changes that affect so many aspects of our lives - whether it’s work, entertainment, education, or family dynamics. We can’t restore yesterday’s model of community, where only those who were older transmitted wisdom downward to the generation below. But we can relearn how much members of different generations have to offer each other and recreate intergenerational communities for the 21st century where young, old, and everyone in between is equally valued for their perspectives, and where each generation views itself as having a stake in the other’s success. Here, Hayim Herring focuses more deeply on how Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennials perceive one another and looks underneath the generational labels that compound isolation. He offers ways we can prepare current and future generations for a world in which ongoing interactions with people from multiple generations become the norm, and re-experience how enriching intergenerational relationships are personally and communally.

Using this helpful book, learn how the secret to happiness and longevity can be found through mentoring the next generation. In How to Live Forever, Encore.org founder and CEO Marc Freedman tells the story of his thirty-year quest to answer some of contemporary life's most urgent questions: With so many living so much longer, what is the meaning of the increasing years beyond 50? How can a society with more older people than younger ones thrive? How do we find happiness when we know life is long and time is short? In a poignant book that defies categorization, Freedman finds insights by exploring purpose and generativity, digging into the drive for longevity and the perils of age segregation, and talking to social innovators across the globe bringing the generations together for mutual benefit. He finds wisdom in stories from young and old, featuring ordinary people and icons like jazz great Clark Terry and basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But the answers also come from stories of Freedman's own mentors—a sawmill worker turned surrogate grandparent, a university administrator who served as Einstein's driver, a cabinet secretary who won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the gym teacher who was Freedman's father. How to Live Forever is a deeply personal call to find fulfillment and happiness in our longer lives by connecting with the next generation and forging a legacy of love that lives beyond us.

A recent Filene publication studied bequests and inheritances, where the transfer takes place after the death of the giver. The current research provides facts about gifts for which the transfer takes place during the lifetime of the giver. Inter vivo gifts of significant size usually pass between generations of the same family. To the extent that credit unions can facilitate this transfer, they can connect with a younger generation.

They do, however, explore common Millennial stereotypes in the hopes of helping other generations better understand this lost generation. They also offer ideas on how to build strong intergenerational relationships to better equip Boomers and Gen Xers to engage a generation that is generally apathetic and disinterested in the church. Because ultimately, all this talk about Millennial and generations is not about upping church attendance for the sake of numbers-it's about one generation leading another to Christ. Book jacket.

This is the story of the kids who built a world-class church — Heart of God Church started as a divine experiment to build a prototype Youth Church. Now it has developed into a proof of concept that Youths can build a STRONG CHURCH. GenerationS is a mindset-shifting, heart-changing book that shows you how to raise up generations of young people in your church to build His kingdom. After over 20 years, this youth church, operated by youths, for youths to reach youths, still has an average age of 22. “I see a great struggle in the global churches in keeping the young people… At Heart of God Church, things are different. After ministering in the biggest churches and conferences all over the world, what I’ve witnessed at Heart of God Church is unlike anything I have experienced before. What Heart of God Church has wonderfully modelled for us all should not only be applauded and admired; it should also be reproduced everywhere.” – JOHN BEVERE, International bestselling author The Bait of Satan, Co-Founder, Messenger International “On my most recent visit, one of my band was so wowed by the environment of the visual/video tech room – where he saw not just one operator at each station, but three... (This) was so impressive – there was one operator, one trainer and one trainee. These were people in their mid to high teens, some as young as 12 or 13... Considering the amount of responsibility a video/visual team carries in a large service, and how much specialised technical skill there is to learn... he was amazed. There was a beautiful trust being placed in these young people... and ultimately it’s the Jesus model of discipleship.” – MATT REDMAN, Two-time Grammy Award winner, singer-songwriter and worship leader Bonus #1: Contributors and ‘Inside Stories’ Read 1,000+ word contributions from 13 other contributing writers that provide an ‘inside look’ and 360º view of HOGC.
