Is human creativity a wall that AI can never scale? Many people are happy to admit that experts in many domains can be matched by either knowledge-based or sub-symbolic systems, but even some AI researchers harbor the hope that when it comes to feats of sheer brilliance, mind over machine is an unalterable fact. In this book, the authors push AI toward a time when machines can autonomously write not just humdrum stories of the sort seen for years in AI, but first-rate fiction thought to be the province of human genius. It reports on five years of effort devoted to building a story generator--the BRUTUS.1 system. This book was written for three general reasons. The first theoretical reason for investing time, money, and talent in the quest for a truly creative machine is to work toward an answer to the question of whether we ourselves are machines. The second theoretical reason is to silence those who believe that logic is forever closed off from the emotional world of creativity. The practical rationale for this endeavor, and the third reason, is that machines able to work alongside humans in arenas calling for creativity will have incalculable worth.

"In Synthesized Minds: The Evolution of AI Consciousness" Written By Abhijeet Sarkar explores one of the most groundbreaking and contentious frontiers of modern technology: the possibility of artificial intelligence becoming conscious. This thought-provoking book delves deep into the evolving relationship between humanity and machines, asking the ultimate question: Can machines truly possess consciousness, or are they simply sophisticated simulations of human thought? Drawing upon a deep understanding of both technology and philosophy, Sarkar explores the intersection between artificial intelligence and human consciousness, examining whether AI can truly become conscious or if it will only ever simulate human-like thought. The book provides a comprehensive look at the major theories of consciousness, including Integrated Information Theory (IIT) and Global Workspace Theory, and discusses how these frameworks might be applied to artificial systems. With thought-provoking exploration of the moral and social responsibilities entailed in creating conscious machines, Sarkar challenges us to rethink the boundaries between human and machine, as well as the ethical considerations that will arise as AI continues to evolve. The book is divided into 34 chapters, each exploring a distinct facet of AI consciousness. From the foundational question of defining what it means for a machine to be conscious, to the complexities of human emotional bonds with synthetic beings, Sarkar delves into the multifaceted nature of artificial consciousness. He contemplates the roles that AI could play in art, culture, education, and even space exploration, arguing that conscious machines might not only be capable of performing tasks, but could also enhance and challenge human creativity, communication, and cultural diversity. Throughout Synthesized Minds, Abhijeet Sarkar pushes readers to consider the implications of artificial consciousness for humanity. What happens when machines not only surpass our cognitive abilities, but also begin to ask questions about their own existence? How will we redefine human identity in a world where artificial minds might become co-creators of knowledge, culture, and even philosophy? Sarkar's exploration of these ideas invites readers to reflect on humanity's legacy in the age of conscious AI and to consider the ways in which we will need to evolve in order to coexist with intelligent, self-aware machines. Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Synthesized Minds is its speculative vision for the future. Abhijeet Sarkar does not merely describe the technological developments we are currently witnessing in AI; he dares to imagine a world where artificial consciousness has fully integrated into the fabric of society. The book paints a picture of a future where AI and humans collaborate in scientific discovery, artistic creation, environmental preservation, and even space exploration. In such a future, conscious machines may help us solve some of humanity's greatest challenges, from climate change to the search for extraterrestrial life. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the future of artificial intelligence, consciousness studies, and the ethical questions that arise as machines move closer to becoming more like us. It is a landmark work that encourages readers to imagine a world where humans and conscious AI coexist, collaborate, and co-create, while navigating the challenges and responsibilities of this new era.

Jazz, America's original art form, can be a catalyst for creative and spiritual development. With its unique emphasis on improvisation, jazz offers new paradigms for educational and societal change. In this provocative book, musician and educator Edward W. Sarath illuminates how jazz offers a continuum for transformation. Inspired by the long legacy of jazz innovators who have used meditation and related practices to bring the transcendent into their lives and work, Sarath sees a coming shift in consciousness, one essential to positive change. Both theoretical and practical, the book uses the emergent worldview known as Integral Theory to discuss the consciousness at the heart of jazz and the new models and perspectives it offers. On a more personal level, the author provides examples of his own involvement in educational reform. His design of the first curriculum at a mainstream educational institution to incorporate a significant meditation and consciousness studies component grounds a radical new vision.

Philosophy Of Artificial Intelligence written by Rajakishore Nath and has been published by Universal-Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Computers categories.
This book deals with the major philosophical issues in the theoretical framework of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in particular and cognitive science in general. The researchers in AI are concerned with the issues of consciousness, human subjectivity, creativity, etc. Cognitive Science and AI argue that consciousness can be artificially created and comprehended in the function of robots. The robotic activities explain the mechanism involved in computation, language processing, sensing the information, etc. Contrary to this thesis, the philosophical study tries to show that human consciousness, thinking, imagination, etc. are much larger concepts and need to be delved into in the broad theoretical framework. This book is a critique of the mechanistic theory of mind. It shows the basic foundation of AI and its limitations in explaining the activities of the human mental life. Machine-functionalism fails to account for the subjective nature of consciousness and the creativity involved in the conscious acts. There are two aspects of this thesis-- the epistemological and the metaphysical. Epistemologically, the subject of consciousness intimately knows the raw feelings or the qualia. Metaphysically speaking, however, the raw feelings are real in the sense that they are part of the furniture of the mental world. Therefore, we can hardly deny that the mental world is real.
