Consciousness in Interaction is an interdisciplinary collection with contributions from philosophers, psychologists, cognitive scientists, and historians of philosophy. It revolves around the idea that consciousness emerges from, and impacts on, our skilled interactions with the natural and social context. Section one discusses how phenomenal consciousness and subjective selfhood are grounded on natural and social interactions, and what role brain activity plays in these phenomena. Section two analyzes how interactions with external objects and other human beings shape our understanding of ourselves, and how consciousness changes social interaction, self-control and emotions. Section three provides historical depth to the volume, by tracing the roots of the contemporary notion of consciousness in early modern philosophy. The book offers interdisciplinary insight on a variety of key topics in consciousness research: as such, it is of particular interest for researchers from philosophy of mind, phenomenology, cognitive and social sciences, and humanities.

The remarkable advancements in artificial intelligence highlight humanity’s ingenuity in replicating cognitive functions. But a fundamental question remains: Could AI one day transcend computation to attain consciousness? Blending ancient philosophies, cutting-edge science, and emerging AI theories, this book delves into the enigmatic nature of consciousness and its intersection with technology. From Alan Turing’s foundational question, “Can machines think?” to the transformative possibilities of Quantum Field Theory, consider questions such as: • How might AI evolve from simulating intelligence to achieving consciousness? • Can Vedantic and ancient Indian wisdom provide insights on consciousness in relation to AI? • Is consciousness a fundamental essence of the universe or a byproduct of the material brain? Through the lens of neuroscience, cognitive science, and Integrated Information Theory, the book investigates how conscious experience might arise in artificial systems. It also explores how quantum mechanics and Quantum Field Theory support the idea that consciousness is more than a neurological phenomenon. Delve into the interaction between universal consciousness and AI systems as well as the interaction between AI systems and the external world with Consciousness in AI.

Building a conscious robot is a scientific and technological challenge. Debates about the possibility of conscious robots and the related positive outcomes and hazards for human beings are today no longer confined to philosophical circles. Robot consciousness is a research field aimed at a two-part goal: on the one hand, scholars working in robot consciousness take inspiration from biological consciousness to build robots that present forms of experiential and functional consciousness. On the other hand, scholars employ robots as tools to better understand biological consciousness. Thus, part one of the goal concerns the replication of aspects of biological consciousness in robots, by unifying a variety of approaches from AI and robotics, cognitive robotics, epigenetic and affective robotics, situated and embodied robotics, developmental robotics, anticipatory systems, and biomimetic robotics. Part two of the goal is pursued by employing robots to advance and mark progress in the study of consciousness in humans and animals. Notably, neuroscientists involved in the study of consciousness do not exclude the possibility that robots may be conscious. This eBook comprises a collection of thirteen manuscripts and an Editorial published by Frontiers in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, under the section Humanoid Robotics, and Frontiers in Neurorobotics, on the topic “Consciousness in Humanoid Robots.” This compendium aims at collating the most recent theoretical studies, models, and case studies of machine consciousness that take the humanoid robot as a frame of reference. The content in the articles may be applied to many different kinds of robots, and to software agents as well.

Clinical Interaction And The Analysis Of Meaning written by Theo L. Dorpat and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Psychology categories.

Clinical Interaction and the Analysis of Meaning evinces a therapeutic vitality all too rare in works of theory. Rather than fleeing from the insights of other disciplines, Dorpat and Miller discover in recent research confirmation of the possibilities of psychoanalytic treatment. In Section I, "Critique of Classical Theory," Dorpat proposes a radical revision of the notion of primary process consonant with contemporary cognitive science. Such a revised conception not only enlarges our understanding of the analytic process; it also provides analysis with a conceptual language that can articulate meaningful connections with a growing body of empirical research about the development and nature of human cognition. In Section II, "Interactional Theory," Miller reverses the direction of inquiry. He begins with the literature on cognitive development and functioning, and proceeds to mine it for concepts relevant to the clinical process. He shows how a revised understanding of the operation of cognition and affect can impart new meaning to basic clinical concepts such as resistance, transference, and level of psychopathology. In Section III, "Applications and Exemplifications," Dorpat concludes this exemplary collaboration by exploring select topics from the standpoint of his and Miller's new psychoanalytic theory. At the heart of the authors' endeavor it "meaning analysis," a concept that integrates an up-to-date model of human information processing with the traditional goals of psychoanalysis. The patient approaches the clinical encounter, they argue, with cognitive-affective schemas that are the accumulatice product of his life experience to date; the manifold meanings ascribed to the clinical interaction must be understood as the product of these schemas rather than as distortions deriving from unconscious, drive-related fantasies. The therapist's goal is to make the patient's meaning-making conscious and thus available for introspection.

What is a Human Being? When we think of ourselves, we think primarily of our subjective sense of self, our Consciousness, and how does it relate to our Body? Are Mind and Body one and the same thing, Monism, or two separate things, Dualism. This is the "Mind-Body Problem." It is the scientific question of how Consciousness is manifest in the structure of Brain. It is the moral questions regarding abortion and end of life. The answers require an explanation in terms of physics, metaphysics, and history. It is the discussion inside those explanatory fields that has built the gulf between popular intuitive Dualism and the expert Monism. This work presents a clear scientific Dualist model, Mind and Body, as two separate things to answer the question, 'What is a Human Being?'

How do the universe and living beings evolve? Matter is energy. The universe's and nature's incomprehensible diversity, the foundation of the multitude of knowledge that condenses and transforms into energy and matter, a space that has partially differentiated through evolution. The different forms that have evolved are, at their core, pure space at various energy field levels. It's plausible that the universe's and energy-matter's evolution started with primitive stars and is still unfolding before our eyes. Perhaps the fundamental question is, "What is the realm of space?" where universes evolve. We are going through a time when the world's consciousness is being reshaped, and life and consciousness are no longer a mystery. Living beings are a whole with their environment, which evolves through matter-energy interactions. How did inanimate matter-energy fields create life? How do we interact with matter-energy fields? What are liveliness, emotions, and consciousness? Why and how did consciousness form? How does our system observe itself? What is an observer? Do other living beings have consciousness? What are instincts? How did they form? How do they operate? Is there a soul? How do we feel and see in our brains? What is time? How is it perceived? How do electricity, light, and electromagnetic fields significantly influence the formation of life and consciousness? Not only plants but essentially all living beings: how do they fundamentally use light and electricity as energy? What is the universal source of knowledge? How is information stored in our brains, and how is our memory formed? Is our brain a knowledge organizer that shapes and organizes information? Why and how can information be organized? Life is fundamentally an organization of matter and energy that has evolved through environmental interactions. Is the fundamental reason behind our problems the nature of the universe? If consciousness understands what it means to be alive, how is it affected by this? What is the purpose that drives living beings, the foundation of life? Is it fundamentally the same with matter and energy, with the evolution of the universe? What are we? Is space fully understandable? If we were to integrate and develop all methods, would our effort to understand space still be considered a reductionist approach, even if it included our future evolution? Why?

Seeks answers to these questions using the underlying assumption that consciousness can be understood using the intellectual potential of modern physics and other sciences. There are a number of theories of consciousness, some based on classical physics while others require the use of quantum concepts. The latter ones have drawn criticism from the parts of the scientific establishment while simultaneously claiming that classical approaches are doomed to failure. The contributing authors presents a spectrum of opinions from both sides of this on-going scientific debate, allowing readers to decide for themselves which of the approaches are most likely to succeed.

Navigating a diversity of religious myths and worldviews in both conventional and nuanced secular ways, this edited volume explores transdisciplinary common knowledge and global citizenship ideology through the lens of spirituality, depth hermeneutics, and multimodality. Guided by a broadly semiotic approach, this book examines ancient spiritual myths, metaphors, and magic/wisdom, raising crucial questions of identity, current conflicts, military power, and crises which threaten mental health for many. Chapters take an anthropological and chronological approach through targeted case studies, in part using Systemic Functional Semiotic (SFS) frameworks and linguistic anthropology to tackle issues of contemporary importance such as human rights, conflict resolution, environmentalism, and sustainable development. Featuring a truly international, multidisciplinary team of contributors applying the lenses of mysticism, neuroscience, quantum theory, psychology, and phenomenology to the themes discussed, this book uncovers deep ultimate connections between different religious and philosophical traditions, highlighting shared metaphors, narratives, and allegories that transcend disciplinary, cultural, and geographical boundaries. Driven by a collaborative attempt at achieving spiritual understanding, this book will be of interest to postgraduate students, researchers, and scholars working in global citizenship education, philosophy of education, cognitive linguistics, and semiotics more broadly. It will also be useful for scholars of spirituality, philosophy of language, and ancient religions.

Crossing written by Ben Rampton and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-10 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Focusing on urban youth culture and language crossing, this foundational volume by Ben Rampton has played a pivotal role in the shaping of language and ethnic identity as a domain of study. It focuses on language crossing - the use of Panjabi by adolescents of African-Caribbean and Anglo descent, the use of Creole by adolescents with Panjabi and Anglo backgrounds, and the use of stylized Indian English. Crossing’s central question is: how far and in what ways do these intricate processes of language sharing and exchange help to overcome race stratification and contribute to a new sense of mixed youth, class and neighbourhood community? Ben Rampton produces detailed ethnographic and interactional analyses of spontaneous speech data, and integrates the discussion of particular incidents with theories of discourse, code-switching, social movements, resistance and ritual drawn from sociolinguistics, sociology, anthropology and cultural studies. Now a Routledge Linguistics Classic with a new preface which sets the work in its current context, this book remains key reading for all those working in the areas of applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology.
