Ignorance and Imagination advances a novel way to resolve the central philosophical problem about the mind: how it is that consciousness or experience fits into a larger naturalistic picture of the world. The correct response to the problem, Stoljar argues, is not to posit a realm of experience distinct from the physical, nor to deny the reality of phenomenal experience, nor even to rethink our understanding of consciousness and the language we use to talk about it. Instead, we should view the problem itself as a consequence of our ignorance of the relevant physical facts. Stoljar shows that this change of orientation is well motivated historically, empirically, and philosophically, and that it has none of the side effects it is sometimes thought to have. The result is a philosophical perspective on the mind that has a number of far-reaching consequences: for consciousness studies, for our place in nature, and for the way we think about the relationship between philosophy and science.

Ignorant Cognition written by Selene Arfini and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-19 with Philosophy categories.

This book offers a comprehensive philosophical investigation of ignorance. Using a set of cognitive tools and models, it discusses features that can describe a state of ignorance if linked to a particular type of cognition affecting the agent’s social behavior, belief system, and inferential capacity. The author defines ignorance as a cognitive condition that can be either passively (and unconsciously) borne by an agent or actively nurtured by him or her, and a condition that entails epistemic limitations (which can be any lack of knowledge, belief, information or data) that affect the agent’s behavior, belief system, and inferential capacity. The author subsequently describes the ephemeral nature of ignorance, its tenacity in the development of human inferential and cognitive performance, and the possibility of sharing ignorance among human agents within the social dimension. By combining previous frameworks such as the naturalization of logic, the eco-cognitive perspective in philosophy and concepts from Peircean epistemology, and adding original ideas derived from the author’s own research and reflections, the book develops a new cognitive framework to help understand the nature of ignorance and its influence on the human condition.

The Anthropology Of Ignorance written by C. High and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-27 with Social Science categories.

The question of ignorance occupies a central place in anthropological theory and practice. This volume argues that the concept of ignorance has largely been pursued as the opposite of knowledge or even its obverse. Though they cover wide empirical ground - from clients of a fertility treatment center in New York to families grappling with suicide in Greenland - contributors share a commitment to understanding the concept as a productive, social practice. Ultimately, The Anthropology of Ignorance asks whether an academic commitment to knowledge can be squared with lived significance of ignorance and how taking it seriously might alter anthropological research practices.

Consciousness Is Truth written by Sai Prasad Nanduri and has been published by Notion Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

"The scientists have proposed that the universe came into existence by accident. And due to a series of coincidences, life and consciousness evolved from inert matter. Different religions express faith that God created this universe, and He is controlling it from heaven. In this book it is propounded that both the views do not stand careful scrutiny. It is argued, in a systematic way, that the universe, comprising of space, time, matter, human body, ego, mind and intellect, is not real. Consciousness is the only reality behind this illusory appearance of the world. Everything else is a superimposition on this Consciousness. Removal of ignorance, through self-knowledge, is the only solution for all the ills facing the society. It is beyond caste, creed, race, religion and nationality. This book is meant for all age groups. The young will learn how to lead a happy life, and the old will learn how to die peacefully."

Robert J. Howell offers a new account of the relationship between conscious experience and the physical world, based on a neo-Cartesian notion of the physical and careful consideration of three anti-materialist arguments. His theory of subjective physicalism reconciles the data of consciousness with the advantages of a monistic, physical ontology.

This book is written as a stand-alone guide to Awakening and is composed of articles written since the publication of Awakening and Beyond. It is designed to allow the reader to directly investigate their own experience wich reveals the Awareness in which this occurs. This is what my books are all about, becoming 'aware of Awareness' through direct investigation and then continuing with further 'investigation of the Way' (the Tao, the nature of reality). I call this the Open Way for it is open to all and is a way to Awaken. The are many 'ways' but most of them are closed in that they require their adherents to have special knowledge, ability and discipline; whereas, awareness of Awareness is a simple direct seeing which when cultivated leads to full Awakening.

The Matter Of Consciousness written by Torin Alter and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-31 with Philosophy categories.

Torin Alter presents a compelling defence of the 'knowledge argument' against physicalism, pioneered by Frank Jackson. According to physicalism, consciousness is a physical phenomenon. The knowledge argument stars Mary, who learns all objective, physical information through black-and-white media and yet acquires new information when she first sees colors for herself: information about what it is like to see in color. Based partly on that case, Jackson concludes that not all information is physical. Alter argues that the knowledge argument succeeds in refuting all standard versions of physicalism: versions on which consciousness is grounded by what objective science reveals. Alter also argues that given further, plausible assumptions, the knowledge argument leads to Russellian monism, according to which there are intrinsic properties that both constitute consciousness and underlie properties described by physics, such as mass and charge. Alter explains how the knowledge argument establishes those two conclusions and defend it against numerous objections.
